Software Engineering Principal Position Overview
The Evernorth Pharmacy+ and Care Delivery organization is seeking a highly experienced Principal Architect to provide strategic architectural leadership and drive forward‑looking technology solutions aligned with enterprise standards. This role provides strategic architectural guidance that significantly influences enterprise technology direction, long‑term planning, and execution of forward‑looking solutions aligned with business outcomes. The ideal candidate is a high producer of work who thrives on solving complex, ambiguous problems and delivering creative, inventive, and future‑ready software and architecture solutions. This role is expected to actively lead and elevate the engineering community—ensuring alignment with Pharmacy+ & Care Delivery and Evernorth technology objectives, fostering a strong engineering community, and driving continuous improvement and engineering excellence across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Architect, Design, Engineer: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the architecture, design principles, and engineering practices for Pharmacy+ & Care Delivery teams, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Development: Solve technical problems of the highest scope and complexity for Pharmacy+ & Care Delivery and able to play a tech lead role for major engineering initiatives. Be a point of escalation for teams facing complex technical challenges. Ensure high standards are being followed when it comes to design, coding quality, along with unit and component testing.
- Impact & Contribution: Code applications that enable and inspire other software engineers; Champion user-friendly self-service tools and interfaces and/or integrate with existing enterprise solutions to help the engineers become more productive and engaged with the enterprise engineering community; Can serve as the overall technical lead for major initiatives and projects; Attain a measurable impact on the work of the Pharmacy+ & Care delivery teams through defining and communicating specific goals and objectives. Identify strategic opportunities, assess for pragmatic applicability, and drive adoption.
- Collaboration: Collaborate and make proposals across several teams to make informed decisions in alignment with strategic plans. Looks for innovation opportunities between several teams with a willingness to experiment and to boldly confront problems of large complexity and scope.
- Engineering Community Development and Strategy:
Demonstrate both thought and hands-on leadership in developing Pharmacy+ & Care delivery technical strategies with key partners; Use position and influence to ensure that the Pharmacy+ & Care delivery organization and key business partners understand technical strategies and work with other APEs, PEs and Managers to ensure that all engineers are positioned to be successful with continuous skill set development. Influence people leaders to prepare for the necessary future technical skillsets for the engineering community.
- Mentorship: Teach, mentor, grow, and provide advice to other domain experts and individual contributors. Foster an active PE community within Pharmacy+ & Care delivery. Present at conferences and solicit new talent.
- Stay Current and Innovate: Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies and recommend relevant platform and process improvements. Identify, articulate and document solutions for patent application
Qualifications
- Generative AI & Agentic Architecture:
Experience with generative AI and agentic architecture.
- Digital, APIs and Capabilities:
Deep understanding and experience in designing and implementing digital applications, Experience Capabilities and Composable Architecture.
- Enterprise Architecture:
Knowledge in enterprise architecture frameworks and methodologies.
- Evolutionary Design:
Expertise evolutionary design principles to ensure systems can adapt to changing requirements.
- Design Thinking:
Proficiency in design thinking methodologies to drive innovative solutions.
- Cloud Technologies:
Extensive experience with AWS and various services.
- Programming Languages:
Proficiency in Golang, Typescript, and Python. Polyglot programming is a must.
- Data Engineering:
Strong background in data engineering practices and technologies.
- Technology agnostic thinking :
Ability to think and design in a technology‑agnostic manner, enabling effective guidance and problem‑solving across teams even without deep knowledge of specific implementation details.
Experience:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of 16 years of experience in IT architecture, with at least 5 years of leadership roles.
- Relevant certifications in AWS, architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF), and other related areas are a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
- Healthcare experience is a plus.
Location & Hours of Work
- Full-time position, working 40 hours per week. Expected overlap with US hours as appropriate
- Primarily based in the Innovation Hub in Hyderabad, India, with flexibility to work remotely as required.
