We’re Checkout.com – you might not know our name, but companies like eBay, ASOS, Klarna, Uber Eats, and Sony do. That moment when you check out online? We make it happen.
Checkout.com is where the world checks out. Our global network powers billions of transactions every year, making money move without making a fuss. We spent years perfecting a service most people will never notice. Because when digital payments just work, businesses grow, customers stay, and no one stops to think about why.
With 19 offices spanning six continents, we feel at home everywhere – but London is our HQ. Wherever our people work their magic, they’re fast-moving, performance-obsessed, and driven by being better every day. Ideal. Because a role here isn’t just another job; it’s a career-defining opportunity to build the future of fintech.
Role overview | Context
Reporting to the Global Head of Regulatory Compliance, you will lead Regulatory Compliance for our APAC businesses ensuring that governance, reporting, and regulatory engagements are executed to the highest standard. The role will suit a senior regulatory compliance manager/officer looking to join a fast-paced, growing payments financial technology company. You will hit the ground running from the start, and so we look for self-starters who relish that kind of challenge and pace in helping the business.
How you’ll make an impact
- Operational Excellence:
Create regulatory compliance standards and collaborate with functional stakeholders to embed these standards into the regional regulatory engagement model.
- Regulatory Intelligence:
Lead the "Horizon Scanning" process for APAC by monitoring legislative changes, conducting impact assessments, and partnering with Compliance Advisory in the Region to ensure key regulatory changes are identified and tracked all the way through to the point of execution.
- Licensure Maintenance:
Own the license renewal process for Checkout.com to ensure all licenses to operate in the APAC region remain in good standing.
- Regulatory Reporting:
Oversee the timely submission of regulatory filings, notifications, and ongoing reporting. Act as the primary administrator for the various regulatory portals, ensuring all company records, biographical updates, and financial disclosures are current.
-
Process Management: Adhere to standardized workflows for incident management, consumer complaint tracking and regulatory inquiry responses.
-
Exam Readiness:
Build and maintain the standardized "Exam Playbook" tailored to APAC regulatory requirements (e.g. MAS, AUSTRAC, HKMA). Lead and coordinate regulatory examinations including document production, inquiry responses, and oversee the implementation of any Management Action Plans (MAPs).
- Process Automation:
Utilize global automation tools and AI-guided knowledge bases to create streamlined procedures for regional regulatory processes.
- Strategic Advisory:
Collaborate with Compliance Advisory, Product and Engineering teams to distinguish between mandatory regulatory modifications and growth-driven regulatory transformation initiatives, ensuring compliance is a design partner in the product lifecycle.
- Cross-Functional Stakeholder Support:
Provide project management for regulatory and internal change initiatives, coordinating with Risk, Legal, Finance, and Operations to gather requirements and prepare materials for internal governance forums dedicated to regulatory change initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience:
6–8+ years in Regulatory Compliance, specifically within the payments and fintech space in Singapore, Australia, and Hong Kong. Experience with Japanese or New Zealand regulators is a strong plus.
- Licensing Expertise:
Hands-on experience managing license renewals and regulatory portal administration across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
- Audit & Exam Management:
Proven track record of managing regulatory audits and maintaining adequate evidence of compliance.
- Tech-Forward Mindset:
Ability to leverage automation, CRM systems (Salesforce, JIRA), and case management tools to manage high-volume, recurring deadlines.
- Scalable Thinking:
An analytical mind able to simplify complex procedures into user-friendly guides, allowing the function to scale efficiently.
- Pragmatic Approach:
A commercial and creative approach to problem-solving, ensuring regulatory requirements support rather than block business growth.
