Schwab's Client Reporting Technology (CRT) is looking for an experienced Senior Software Developer to enhance our 3-tier applications based on Mainframe and distributed technologies that support high-volume regulatory communications. In line with our corporate strategy the individual should contribute to designing solutions that enable the successful migration of our legacy mainframe and Distributed applications to modern, cloud ready solutions.

An ideal candidate should have experience in a technical lead role and capable of planning, designing, building, and leading next generation technology and building technology roadmaps aligning to the needs of our growing business.
As a Senior Software Developer, you should be flexible to assist with any maintenance requests for the current mainframe-based applications to support the company's high-volume communications needs. Job activities will include gathering and interpreting user requirements, design, and development of solutions, enforcing architectural guidelines within the applications, researching, and documenting production environment issues, and driving discussions with technical, business, and external technical partners. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all processes of SDLC for the Mainframe application and collaborate with cross-platform tech leads implementing scalable solutions that meet business goals.
- Familiarity with building interfaces between Legacy and modern distributed applications.
- Be able to contribute to solutioning, Design and implementation of modernization strategies for legacy applications, including mainframe migration and refactoring, mainframe callouts to Distributed platforms.
- Evaluate existing legacy systems for automation and propose solutions for improving performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Proven Exposure to AI and with automation using AI, LLMs (GitHub Copilot, Python, etc.)
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends related to legacy application modernization.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with business stakeholders, platform teams, Architects and other domain teams.
- Be the business liaison creating and fostering strong partnerships with Product Owners and Business Users, ensuring appropriate prioritization of User Stories with a view to delivering to Business needs and priorities
- Experienced in Agile software development practices, act as a mentor for developers, offering guidance and support to augment their skillsets in their tech stack as well as interfacing technologies
- Strong commitment to adhering to project timelines and delivering high-quality results within specified deadlines.
What you have Required Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience as a software developer, with at least 3+ years in a Tech Lead role.
- Proven track record of leading the design & development of complex, enterprise-level software systems involving Mainframe integrated with distributed applications
- Good knowledge and hands-on experience in Financial Industry - specifically with Brokerage Business and transactions processing/Balances/Positions, familiarity with Corporate Actions.
- Strong expertise in Mainframe technologies (JCL, COBOL, Easytrieve, MQs, DB2, Stored Procedures, CICS, VSAM, etc.)
- Proficient in SQL, data analysis, data driven requirement gathering and troubleshooting
- Experience in leading development on High-Volume batch applications with tight SLA's and ability to lead production recovery, troubleshooting through data analysis, sort techniques, scheduling strategies etc.
- Experience with Scheduling tools such as Control-M/ESP/OPC etc.
- 3-6 months of hands-on experience with AI automation (GitHub Copilot, Python, others)
- Strong understanding of software architecture patterns, design principles and scalability considerations.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Experience in mentoring software development teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience/familiarity with Stored Procedures, Datacom DB, DB2, Postgres SQL
- Exposure to Tools such as Change Man, BMC Remedy, Xpeditor, File-Aid/Star Tool, REXX, Jira, Rally
- Experience in 3-tier application with Mainframe batch integrated with distributed processing
- Experience with Messaging technologies such as IBM MQs, Rabbit MQ, file transfers (SFTP, Globalscape), NAS, SPOS, ES3
- Some exposure to Distributed technologies (e.g., Java, Javascript, .NET, C#, Springboot, etc., Shell Scripts).
- Some experience and familiarity with file transmissions, Cloud, SPOS, REST APIs, Callouts from Mainframe to Distributed services, KAFKA, KAFKA Connect, Security Tokens and authentication mechanisms.
- Experience as a developer on an agile scrum team is a plus.
- Some exposure/knowledge of AI & AI based automation (exposure to GitHub Copilot preferred along with some Python skills)
- Exposure to Customer Communication Management Systems like Open Text Exstream is a plus.
- Familiarity with Git, continuous integration /continuous delivery (CI/CD) techniques
