Diversity - Innovation - Caring - Global Collaboration - Winning Spirit - High Performance

At Boston Scientific, we’ll give you the opportunity to harness all that’s within you by working in teams of diverse and high-performing employees, tackling some of the most important health industry challenges. With access to the latest tools, information and training, we’ll help you in advancing your skills and career. Here, you’ll be supported in progressing – whatever your ambitions.

About the role

The Metrologist III focuses on creating accurate, dependable CMM programs and supporting teams in establishing measurable, well‑defined specifications across both New Product Development (NPD) and Sustaining projects. The metrology specialist will advise on appropriate measurement methods and dimensioning practices to ensure requirements can be verified reliably. Working cross‑functionally, this role helps ensure measurement approaches are practical, consistent, and fit for purpose throughout the product lifecycle, while effectively managing multiple projects and meeting tight development and production timelines.

Please note that this is a one-year contract position, with the potential to convert to a full-time permanent role.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Program, operate, and troubleshoot CMMs using optical, hybrid, and tactile probe systems.
  • Develop robust measurement methods, including setup design, uncertainty awareness, and selection of appropriate measurement techniques.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T requirements to build accurate inspection plans.
  • Execute and analyze statistical studies such as MSA and Gage R&R to support qualification and capability assessments.
  • Operate and support additional metrology equipment, including systems such as Instron, Keyence VX, and Mitutoyo surface measurement tools.
  • Support R&D investigations by providing metrology input, data analysis, and measurement strategies.
  • Perform or support calibration and verification activities to ensure metrology equipment accuracy and traceability.
  • Support continuous improvement of metrology processes, tools, and documentation.
  • Inspect and validate small precision components, including plastic‑molded and machined parts.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly and collaborate with engineers and cross-site teams to refine measurement strategies, including supporting Cartago with CMM program development.
  • Other duties as required.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering preferred; a relevant diploma combined with extensive related experience will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in metrology, dimensional inspection, or CMM programming.
  • Ability to work across both optical and probe‑based measurement modalities .
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and demonstrated ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.
  • Proven CMM experience (Zeiss preferred; PC‑DMIS, Mitutoyo, or equivalent acceptable).
  • Experience in measurement fundamentals, including methodology, fixture/setup development, and understanding measurement uncertainty.
  • Competence with statistical tools and concepts, including Gage R&R, repeatability, and variation analysis.
  • Experience inspecting or measuring small precision parts, including molded or machined components.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with the Zeiss ecosystem, including Zeiss CMM software or Zeiss optical systems.
  • Optical metrology or microscopy experience, including understanding depth of field, illumination, and optical system behavior.
  • Background measuring components with tight tolerances (e.g., defense or aerospace‑style tolerances).
  • Experience with small plastic‑molded parts, though not required.
  • Experience with curve and freeform measurement.
  • Experience in a regulated industry such as medical devices, aerospace, or pharmaceutical manufacturing, with exposure to qualification, validation, and compliance‑driven measurement processes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and international standards relevant to engineering drawings and inspection (e.g., ISO standards for dimensioning, tolerancing, and verification), and the ability to ensure measurement approaches align with those requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, especially in explaining measurement rationale and results.
