Join Autodesk and the Forma Design team as a Principal Software Engineer. In this role, you’ll stay deeply hands-on while shaping technical direction across teams. You’ll work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other engineers.

We believe there is a better way to design our cities. To enable this, we aim to transform how architects and engineers work through collaborative, outcome-driven design tools. Your contributions will have a direct impact on shaping our offering—enabling users to discover smart, sustainable solutions and gain valuable insights in their projects.

About the role and the team

As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll help discover what we should build and lead how we build it, from early exploration through production systems.

Here are some of our challenges:

Build and maintain deep insights in how architects and engineers use geodata in their projects so our work on exploring, evaluating and integrating relevant data sets, either from open, public sources, or from third-party vendors, will maximize user value

Making geo data sets available to users - both via GUIs and APIs - in the simplest and most intuitive way.

Expressing and communicating data quality to users in clear and understandable ways, also when the available metrics are inconsistent, unpredictable, unknown, and/or highly technical.

Processing and harmonizing 2D and 3D geospatial data from diverse sources, formats, projections, and coordinate systems into precise, unified representations.

Adapt data sets as needed, for example, by reusing information from other sources to enhance detail. Or, by simplifying representations so they become more effective without losing important details.

Develop cloud-based software to accomplish all of the above, using relevant and suitable third-party libraries, all while ensuring that software quality metrics such as numerical accuracy, application security, resource usage and scalability are properly addressed.

Understanding Autodesk's broad portfolio of design software, and how it is being used to solve our users' very diverse challenges. We work in an industry with a broad spectrum of projects and user scenarios, and need to build software that meets today’s requirements while optimizing for iterative improvements in the future.

On the engineering side, you’ll work with a wide range of technologies, including web applications, large-scale systems, and cloud computing. You will be tackling challenging problems alongside highly engaged and motivated colleagues. In line with our culture, principal engineers lead through influence, collaboration, and example—not authority.

About us

Our tools help architects, urban planners, and real estate developers find the smartest and most sustainable ways to unlock the potential of their projects.

We focus on enabling outcome-based design by putting front and center the important aspects of our user's projects, such as living quality (sun, daylight potential, noise, et al), environmental impact (embodied and operational carbon), and profitability.
