The Data Center Operations Manager leads a team of frontline server engineers providing critical server and network maintenance in AWS data centers. You and your team provide 24/7 frontline support, act as first responders to incidents, and support the development and implementation of improvements to maintenance procedures and practices. Data Center Managers must be effective people leaders able to hire, grow, and evaluate talent on an ongoing basis to meet business needs in a rapidly evolving technical environment. You must be able to work independently to manage your team effectively and be able to determine if and when it is necessary to escalate challenges. Work prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are critical to being successful.
- Key job responsibilities
- Lead a team of frontline server engineers to maintain critical server and network equipment
- Hold a high bar for safety culture and security posture driving compliance across your team
- Prioritize, assign, and review repair work to meet customer SLAs
- Manage the performance of a diverse team of data center professionals across multiple locations
- Develop career paths for employees and support professional growth and skills development
- Recruit and train server engineers to maintain appropriate staffing levels and team capabilities
- Ensure effective and efficient management of day-to-day operations including repair queue management, 7/24 shift arrangement, escalations, and incident response
- Ensure all operational KPIs and metrics are being measured and met
- Inspire and guide improvement in processes, policy, and automation
- Lead investigations to identify root cause of failures, draft remediation plans, and implement long term solutions
- Maintain on-call schedules
- Be passionate about the quality and quantity of services being provided, and continuously strive to improve our Customer Experience

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centers. The position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data center operations. We are currently expanding our infrastructure management team and are looking for technology managers with experience in people management, strong technical understanding and the drive and vision to take AWS Data Center Operations to the next level.
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of team management experience, or a Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience
- Experience owning the operation of a mission-critical team or product
- Experience conducting interviews and making effective hiring decisions
- High school diploma, or equivalent
- Business level English and Japanese language proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and repairing experience
- 2+ years of data center engineering or operations experience
- Experience in technical writing in a relevant field
- certification in an applicable field like A+, Net+, Sec+, CCNA, LPIC, Linux+, AWS certification, or A+ or CND (Certified Network Defender) or Network+ or Security+
