• The team is responsible for the Apache Spark Upgrade Agent and broader SQL Migration Agents for Analytics services (Glue, EMR, Athena), the Remote MCP Service (Sage Maker Unified Studio MCP), and the AWS Glue Python Service
• Product and Runtime. The Remote MCP service is a stepping stone to building broader Migration Agents in the next 2-3 years to enable customers migrate their SQL workloads to AWS Analytics services (Athena, SparkSQL and Redshift).

Apache Spark Upgrade Agent1, is a new generative Agentic AI capability that enables customers to upgrade their Apache Spark applications to newer versions. Spark upgrades traditionally require 6-12 months of engineering effort for customers due to analyzing API changes, resolving dependency conflicts, and validating functional correctness across hundreds of enterprise applications. Apache Spark Upgrade Agent, reduces upgrade timelines from months to weeks through conversational interfaces, automated code transformation, and rigorous data quality validation, allowing engineers to use natural language for upgrades while maintaining approval control over changes and freeing engineering capacity for strategic innovation.

The Remote MCP service is a fully managed Model Context Protocol server that provides customers using AI assistants (Kiro, Claude, Cline) and Agents secure access to value-added Spark Troubleshooting, Code Recommendation and Upgrade tools for Analytics services. Remote MCP service provide Agents with a MCP-compliant (Json-RPC-based interface) for Tool calls with IAM based permissions and auditability through AWS CloudTrail.

The Role:

• Lead and grow a software development team responsible for building AI Agents for Analytics
• Manage the design, implementation, test, and deployment
• Conceive innovative new solutions for our customers, at the intersection of multiple fields: AI, Big Data, datalakes, serverless infrastructure, data analytics, and machine learning.
• Mentor engineers, provide leadership on complex technical issues, design trade-offs, and feature and schedule prioritization
• Work with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements, and influence our technical and business strategy
• Help hire talented engineers

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
