Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Manager – Ring Device Software, you will be responsible for leading a world-class team of engineers working on embedded software and firmware used in millions of Ring devices. A successful candidate will have strong technical skills, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.

You will work closely with other platform, hardware, operations, user-space, and quality assurance teams. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open and collaborative peer environment.

Beyond managing day-to-day engineering execution, you will champion the adoption of AI-powered development practices across your team. Backed by Amazon's world-class AI resources and infrastructure, you will drive the integration of AI agents and Generative AI tools into embedded software development workflows — shaping methodologies that will define the future of software engineering at Ring.

The ideal candidate:

Is enthusiastic about developing and adopting AI/ML technologies and tools to enhance software development practices across the team
Thrives in a dynamic, multi-national environment with multiple, changing priorities
Knows what is important when shipping products to customers and has led teams through the full product lifecycle
Is comfortable with proactive outward communication, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration
Inspires and empowers engineers to explore emerging technologies and continuously raise the bar on code quality and development efficiency

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 5+ years of engineering experience
  • 5+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Enthusiasm for adopting and driving AI/ML technologies and tools to enhance team-wide software development practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective, product-focused software engineers
  • Experience with AI-powered development tools (e.g., Amazon Kiro, Amazon Q Developer, or similar AI coding assistants)
  • Hands-on experience or demonstrated ability to guide teams in developing AI agents, automation scripts, or AI-assisted workflows to improve development efficiency
  • Demonstrated passion for exploring and adopting emerging technologies to drive innovation and code quality
  • Background in embedded software development (C/C++, ARM CPUs, RTOS, wireless protocols such as BLE or Wi-Fi)
