Job Description:

The Network Attached Storage (NAS) / Storage Area Network (SAN) Product Engineer manages, administers, and implements engineering best practices for Allstate's NAS / SAN infrastructure. This role encompasses contributing to detailed NAS / SAN infrastructure design as well as implementation, testing and coordination of operational maintenance associated with Allstate's enterprise NAS / SAN environment. The NAS / SAN Product engineer will be responsible for lifecycle management, as well as the development and deployment of new capabilities within the on-premises NAS / SAN infrastructures. Additionally, the NAS / SAN Product engineer will help all internal client needs and NAS / SAN related infrastructure projects. The NAS / SAN Product Engineer will also be accountable for the certification, security, and implementation of new hardware, software, and capabilities for NAS / SAN related technologies.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise NAS / SAN storage management and administration
  • Automation of storage administration and management as needed.
  • Protect enterprise storage against security vulnerabilities and attacks
  • Engagement with internal business functions, other IT support organizations, and multiple diverse application support teams
  • Contribute to a team of 7-9 NAS / SAN engineers

Accountabilities:

  • Build long-term relationships within team and amongst peers by creating an environment of safety, innovation, integrity, and honest open communication.
  • Initiate and implement continuous improvements in the NAS / SAN infrastructure environment, including automation of complex tasks and delivery of NAS / SAN capabilities.
  • Partner with others in the organization to set and manage expectations associated with Allstate's NAS / SAN Infrastructure, continually seek opportunities to be a thought partner and deepen relationships.
  • Design/create/automate NAS / SAN solutions to meet business unit requirements.
  • Contribute to the lifecycle management of NAS / SAN platforms.
  • Introduce and deploy new storage capabilities through the introduction and deployment of new technologies.
  • Develop and deploy storage automation to improve service delivery.
  • Represent the NAS / SAN team in collaborative efforts and projects with internal clients and other infrastructure teams.
  • Maintain a relationship with NAS / SAN vendors and stay abreast of their latest technology offerings and recommend new capabilities that provide value to Allstate.
  • Establish, implement, and perform storage management functions that ensure the resiliency, maintainability, and security of the storage infrastructure.
  • Adhere to policies and practices associated with change management, incident management, problem management, and release management in the NAS / SAN infrastructure.
  • Research and respond to inquiries regarding solution alternatives, execution or delivery.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
  • Produce policy, best practice, and procedural documentation for NAS / SAN related software and hardware implemented in the storage infrastructure.
  • Perform testing of new software and firmware patches to the storage environment and produce documentation for rolling out the software.
  • Monitor NAS / SAN usage and assist with capacity management for all datacenters.
  • Provide escalation support for NAS / SAN infrastructure
  • Take actions as needed to improve the performance, availability, and resiliency of the NAS / SAN platforms.

Education: College or University degree preferred

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a geographically dispersed team environment
  • Experience with NAS / SAN administration and management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Shell Scripting / Automation Development
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Git

Hub and Jenkins:

  • Experience and exposure to the Hitachi SAN technologies

  • Experience and exposure to Cisco SAN Fabric technologies

  • Experience and exposure to Net App NAS technologies

  • Experience in developing storage related automation

  • Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

  • Education & Experience (in lieu)

  • In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
