Supervisor Accountant

Core Purpose of the Role:

This position will oversee and manage the accounting functions of the reinsurance area for the submission of Regulatory Reports to the local Insurance regulator, including, but not limited to, year-end closing, interfaces between accounting systems, balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations, statutory reporting, supporting the coordination of internal and external audits, and supporting the Local and Regional Controllers in providing overall oversight of the three legal entities in Mexico, ensuring that all key financial results are completed and delivered on time at the Local and Corporate levels.

He will work with the FC to review and finance controller and financial operations, ensuring timely delivery of information, anticipating potential delays in automated processes, and addressing them.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervisor Accountant / Compliance / General Finance:

  • Manage all period end closing financial reporting activities in the US GAAP and Local GAAP ledgers for reinsurance area in conjunction with FC to ensure all reporting deadlines are met.

  • Ensure accounting standards and policies are adhered to, including processes completed by FC.

  • Coordinate and review of month end and quarter end reporting activities of reinsurance area.

  • Provide supporting documentation and preparation of information with external audit and reviews.

  • Work closely with FC and the Business colleagues to resolve issues and communicate changes.

  • Ensure timely and complete compliance with local statutory for reinsurance.

  • Interact as necessary with government agencies, financial institutions and industry organizations. Be able to clearly articulate AIG’s position on key matters and issues for reinsurance.

  • Ensure an effective internal control environment. Coordinate the planning and support the execution of local internal and external audit work.

  • Monitor the team's efforts to fulfill SOX audit and inquiries from Corporate and external auditors.

  • Manage other activities, attending to requests for statistical information both for US and local authorities as well as other ad hoc requests that may arise from time to time

  • Support for project management as well as applications implementation, documentation and user training.

  • Sets goals and establishes priorities within the reinsurance area.

  • Provides support and advice to staff concerning procedures, systems and priorities.

  • Liaise with all finance team and all areas of the company to achieve the expected result.

Key Capabilities:

  • Strong analytical background with strategic thinking capabilities and attention to detail

  • Solid understanding of accounting, internal controls, financial systems and processes

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management both verbally and in writing

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment

  • Ability to multi-task, consistently meeting deadlines on multiple projects and activities

  • Work effectively in a team environment and in building collaborative relationships with peers and with other stakeholders

People Managerial skills:

  • Intermediate English

Key Experience:

  • 3-6 years relevant post qualification experience

  • Hands-on experience in an accounting supervisor role

  • Experience Insurance Industry is considered an asset

  • Strong preference for working with shared service centers

  • Internal controls and SOX experience

Education:

  • University Degree with Accounting major or equivalent
