Sr Manager Process & Engineering Operational Readiness (m/f/d)

About Abbott

Abbott is a global healthcare leader focused on developing innovative solutions that help people live healthier, fuller lives. We combine science, technology, and a forward‑looking mindset to continuously improve patient outcomes and shape the future of healthcare.

In Germany, approximately 3,500 colleagues contribute to our mission across manufacturing, research & development, logistics, sales, and marketing. Our teams are based at Abbott’s European headquarters in Wiesbaden and at additional sites in Neustadt am Rübenberge, Wetzlar, Eschborn, Cologne, Jena, and Hamburg.

The Opportunity

In this role as Sr. Manager Process & Engineering Operational Readiness (m/f/d), you will join our Neustadt am Rübenberge site within Abbott’s medicines business. This area of Abbott’s business delivers a diverse portfolio of high‑quality, differentiated branded generic medicines across key therapeutic areas including gastroenterology, women’s health, cardiometabolic care, CNS/pain management, and respiratory health, globally.

This senior-level role leads cross‑functional engineering and tech‑transfer initiatives, ensuring equipment readiness, smooth product transitions, and strong collaboration with MS&T, manufacturing sites, and technical partners.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure the operational readiness of equipment and production lines across Abbott’s medicines business sites and key third‑party manufacturers (TPMs), including new project start‑ups and global/core product transfers, while securing GMP and safety compliance throughout commissioning, qualification, and start‑up phases

  • Provide hands‑on technical support and troubleshooting on the shop floor, applying engineering expertise and operational excellence to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and ramp equipment to full performance, including the implementation of hard‑automation solutions

  • Build and lead a product transition engineering team with Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) to manage seamless transfers from development or current sources to future manufacturing sites, ensuring fit‑for‑purpose environments, TPMs, and localizations

  • Guide best practices in engineering process design and development, ensuring robust application of process, transfer, and production methodologies across the network

  • Lead and coordinate technical product support activities—new and existing—working closely with MS&T to address equipment, process, and technology needs

  • Develop proposals that elevate existing equipment and processes, defining clear added value and return on investment (ROI) to support strategic decision‑making

  • Own the end‑to‑end Tech Transfer Program in collaboration with MS&T, including business case development, capital planning, and cross‑functional alignment

  • Establish and continuously advance sustainable tech‑transfer guidelines, standards, and frameworks that strengthen consistency and scalability across the organization

  • Foster strong cross‑functional collaboration, mentoring project teams and promoting a culture of operational excellence, technical rigor, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • 15+ years in pharmaceutical or FMG industry, with experience in Manufacturing and process launches

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar, preferably master’s degree

  • Advanced experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and tech transfers

  • Strong understanding of cross-functional aspects in a large-scale business environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required (20-25%).
