This position reports to:

Pharma Engineering Manager:

__

Your role and responsibilities

As a Project Engineer in ABB Life Science, you will play an active and independent role in delivering pharmaceutical automation production systems. You will work at the intersection of process, automation, and compliance, translating production requirements into robust and compliant automation solutions based on ABB 800xA.

You bring some experience within pharma production processes (e.g. fermentation, recovery, purification) and hands‑on experience with control systems such as DeltaV, Sattline, or ABB 800xA.

You will act as a DCS application engineer responsible for an assigned project scope or packet, contributing from early design through commissioning and handover. The role requires independent execution of engineering tasks, application of industry standards, and close collaboration with project teams and customers.

This position suits engineers who can take ownership of their scope, solve technical challenges independently, and deliver high‑quality engineering solutions within agreed frameworks and timelines.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Act as a DCS application engineer responsible for engineering deliverables within an assigned project scope or packet.

  • Independently design and configure medium-complexity automation solutions based on standard project concepts and architectures.

  • Prepare complete and compliant project documentation and ensure alignment with GMP, quality, and contractual requirements.

  • Participate actively in testing, installation, commissioning, and handover activities.

  • Identify and resolve technical challenges within own scope and escalate when decisions impact overall project risk.

  • Collaborate with project teams and participate in customer meetings related to assigned technical topics.

  • Apply ABB engineering processes, tools, and standards consistently and efficiently.

Qualifications for the role

  • 3–5 years of experience in automation or engineering roles within regulated industries, preferably pharmaceutical or life sciences.

  • Solid understanding of GMP requirements and how engineering activities are executed within a regulated project environment.

  • Practical working knowledge of relevant engineering standards and quality frameworks (e.g. S88, GAMP5) and awareness of cybersecurity requirements (e.g. NIS2).

  • Hands‑on experience with pharmaceutical production processes and typical automation architectures.

  • Experience working independently with DCS or SCADA systems; ABB 800xA experience is preferred.

  • Ability to solve technical challenges within own scope and make sound engineering judgments.

  • Comfortably participating in technical discussions with project teams and customers on assigned topics.
