As a Direct Sales Representative, you will be responsible for driving territory growth by developing and executing strategic sales plans while serving as a trusted clinical and business partner to orthopedic surgeons, operating room teams, and healthcare providers. This role combines consultative selling, relationship management, and clinical expertise to deliver exceptional customer experiences and achieve sales objectives.
Success in this position requires building strong customer relationships, providing operating room case coverage, educating healthcare professionals on products, coordinating product evaluations and training, and ensuring product availability. You will actively identify new business opportunities, grow existing accounts, manage territory performance, and maintain accurate sales reporting and inventory. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, relationship-focused sales professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable supporting surgical procedures, and is committed to delivering outstanding customer service while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and professionalism.
Work Environment : This position operates from employee’s home office and covers the Kalamazoo territory. Additionally, employees are routinely required to be present in hospital environments, including operating rooms during surgeries.
How You'll Create Impact
- Building and maintaining customer relationships, while able to cover orthopedic procedures with clinical proficiency and business acumen.
- Educates customers on P28 products.
- Preparing reports of business transactions.
- Building and implementing sales plans for the assigned territory, manages and tracks customer sales activity and prospective customer initiatives, achieves sales quotas, reports on sales progress and competitor customer activities to sales leaders.
- Enter new customer data and other sales data for current customer into P28’s delegated systems.
- Facilitates on-time delivery of products to customers.
- Educating and informing sales representatives, doctors, nurses, and appropriate staff personnel as to the proper use and maintenance of P28 products
- Responsible for territory case coverage.
- Managing and maintaining a sample inventory of products
- Solving product problems for customers in an expeditious fashion
- Travels to and attends trade shows, conventions, and/or clinical meetings.
- Plans, coordinates and executes local educational and sales events, with the support of internal resources, intended to augment the business.
- Coordination of customer training.
- Aggressively solicit orders from present and prospective customers for the products assigned.
- Strictly adheres to all laws and Paragon 28 policies regarding the interaction with Health Care Professionals, product handling and complaints, expense reporting, sales activities and training.
- Keeping respective Direct Sales Representative informed of territory progress on a regular basis.
- Directing product evaluations in operating room (OR) and office settings.
- Responsible for successful completion of sales training.
Your Background
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior orthopedic sales experience preferred; and/or ability to learn and understand orthopedic concepts quickly
- Strong sales and communication skills
- Strong work ethic
- Must have a valid driver’s license and active vehicle insurance policy.
- Able to work efficiently and autonomously with little direction when outside of clinical events
- Residence within the geographical contracted territory of business is required, unless prior approval granted by the Executive VP of Sales and/or CEO. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with individuals internal and external to the organization.
- The employee frequently is required to move about the facility.
- The employee may be required to lift up-to 50 lbs. by themselves.
- Employee must also have the ability to wear a 7-9-pound protective lead apron for extended periods of time in the operating room.
- The position also requires sitting, standing and/or walking for up to eight plus hours per day; frequent bending/stooping, squatting and balance.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus in relation to travel and operating a personal computer.
Travel Expectations
- 20% overnight travel.
- Required to attend national meetings, district meetings and other training as requested.
Compensation Data
This is a Commission based role with expected earnings to range up to $150,000 plus. This position is a draw against commission structure. The employee will receive a guaranteed bi-weekly advance against anticipated commissions. Commissions will be reconciled against the draw on a semi-monthly / monthly basis. If total earned commissions exceed the draw amount, the employee will be paid the excess. If the draw exceeds earned commissions, the resulting deficit will be treated as a recoverable advance and carried forward to be deducted from future commission earnings.
