As the Sr. Software Engineer II (Technical Lead) for Byte Edge, you will own the technical direction and hands-on implementation of our edge computing platform that powers restaurant operations across thousands of locations. You will act as a senior individual contributor and technical leader, setting architectural direction while remaining deeply involved in building core systems.
Byte Edge enables quick-service restaurants to operate autonomously at the store level, sustaining 24+ hours of offline operation while processing thousands of daily orders with reliable synchronization to POS systems, kitchen displays, and management dashboards.

You will design and build distributed systems that run on in-store hardware, balancing performance, reliability, and operational simplicity in environments with intermittent or unreliable connectivity.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including experience operating production distributed systems
• Experience acting as a technical lead, owning system design and guiding engineering decisions
• Technical proficiency in
• Go (1.21+) for high-performance, low-memory service
• Distributed messaging systems such as NATS Jet Stream, Kafka, or similar
• Kubernetes and Helm for container orchestration
• Authentication and authorization using OAuth2 and JWT

Strong experience with

• Event-driven and streaming architectures
• CI/CD pipelines such as Git

Lab CI or GitHub Actions:

• Docker and containerized service development
• Designing systems for resource-constrained or embedded environments

Additional Qualifications:

• Experience with MQTT and cloud-to-edge messaging bridges
• Experience with edge Kubernetes management platforms such as Spectro Cloud Palette
• Knowledge of high-availability patterns including multi-node clustering and fast failover
• Background in restaurant technology, point-of-sale systems, or retail operations
• Experience with GraphQL federation or domain graph services

Salary Range: $131,100-$164,300 annually + bonus eligibility. This is the expected salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining pay, we'll consider the successful candidate’s location, experience, and other job-related factors.
