What you’ll need to succeed as a Manager, Learning and Development (Field) at XPO

Minimum qualifications:

  • 5 years of operations leadership experience, including 2 years of manager experience

  • Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and occasional weekends

  • LTL industry experience

  • Available to travel up to 75% of the time

  • Meet the physical requirements of the job, including working a non-climate controlled dock, moving and lifting items up to 50 lbs, and being on your feet for up to 8 hours (sometimes more)

  • Strong analytical skills, including root-cause analysis, problem-solving and reporting

  • Experience working in various size service centers and/or facilities

  • The capability to deal with ambiguity and navigate uncertain situations while seeking clarity

  • The capacity to work calmly and maintain good judgment in a fast-paced, high-speed environment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work or military experience

  • Experience as a trainer, facilitator, coach or similar role

  • Excellent facilitation skills and a passion for delivering highly engaging learning sessions

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Own onboarding for new frontline leaders (FOS-SCM and Shop Managers) within assigned regions, ensuring all leaders within assigned regions are trained consistently and in alignment with operational and leadership expectations

  • Independently partner with regional operations and HR leaders to assess leadership capability and training needs and determine appropriate training and development responses to support field performance; receiving guidance from Sr. Manager as needed

  • Leverage operational knowledge and field leadership experience to inform and influence the design of learning and development programs and training solutions for field employees, addressing operational challenges and providing data-driven recommendations

  • Manage the Dock Operations Trainer program, ensuring program standards are met and all Trainers within assigned regions adhere to onboarding curriculum guidelines; managing performance and accountability as needed

  • Facilitate train‑the‑trainer sessions to ensure field trainers and leaders can deliver training effectively and consistently across the network

  • Lead and support frontline leadership development programs, including in person new leader training, management training programs, etc.

  • Collaborate across Operations, HR, and L&D to align leadership development efforts with business priorities and operational realities, providing recommendations that drive the business forward

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of onboarding, leadership development, and trainer programs using qualitative and quantitative data.
