This leadership role will head the CRMTA function for North America, driving effective and efficient compliance risk management across the US and Canada. You will be responsible for defining and implementing the standards and procedures that ensure Wise meets its complex state and federal regulatory obligations, particularly concerning money movement and customer assets.

You'll lead the charge in enhancing and automating compliance activities, utilizing data and analytics to transform how we monitor risk, and providing trusted advice to both the first and second lines of defense. This position offers a unique opportunity to build and scale a technology- and data-driven compliance program in a fast-paced Fin Tech environment, with direct responsibility for reporting to the Board and engaging with regulators.

What you’ll do.

  • Lead the CRMTA function: Design, build, enhance, and manage all North America compliance functions related to compliance controls oversight, obligation mapping, monitoring oversight, testing, risk taxonomy, risk assessment, analytics, and technology.

  • Provide Compliance Program Oversight: Oversee and challenge the execution of compliance activities by the First Line of Defense (business teams) related to risk assessments, controls and monitoring.

  • Design and Execute Second Line of Defense Testing related to regulatory requirements.

  • Strategy & Reporting: Prepare and deliver high-quality compliance reporting to senior stakeholders, including supporting quarterly reports to the Board of Directors and Compliance/Risk Committees for North America legal entities.

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of compliance professionals, serving as a senior leader for North America compliance oversight internally and externally to regulators and auditors.

  • Technology & Automation: Lead automation efforts and enhanced usage of data and analytics to drive thought leadership and make compliance activities more efficient and effective across the region.

  • Advisory: Provide expert advice and guidance to regional and global teams (Product, Legal, Operations) on North America regulatory requirements (state and federal law).

The experience, background and competencies needed to succeed in this role.

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in Second Line of Defense compliance or operational risk management within financial services (bank or fintech).

  • Expert-level knowledge of US federal regulatory expectations related to compliance programs, with knowledge of related state and Canada regulations.

  • Demonstrable experience designing, transforming, and building compliance and/or risk management processes, specifically including:

  • Risk Taxonomies and Compliance Risk Assessments.

  • Obligation and Control Mapping.

  • Compliance Monitoring and Testing programs.

  • Regulatory Inventory and Regulatory Change Management processes.

  • Proven experience designing and implementing technology, automation, and analytics to enhance compliance effectiveness.

  • Strong ability to lead a team, collaborate effectively with global/cross-functional stakeholders (including Board members), and represent the company to external parties (regulators/auditors).

Must be willing to work on-site in NYC and be legally authorized to work in the US (Visa sponsorship is not available).
