Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced IBM Instana Administrator to manage, configure, and support enterprise‑scale **application performance monitoring (APM)**and infrastructure observability platforms. The role involves end‑to‑end ownership of Instana environments, including agent deployment, dashboard creation, alerting, performance tuning, and integration with middleware, cloud, and container platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience with IBM Instana,Linux (RHEL),Kubernetes/Open Shift, and enterprise middleware monitoring, supporting24×7 mission‑critical production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Experience: 7 + Years

Instana Platform Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain IBM Instana (Self‑Hosted or SaaS) environments.

• Manage Instana agents across:

• Linux (RHEL)

• RHEL operating system (RHCOS)

• Virtual Machines

• Kubernetes / Open Shift clusters

• Perform Instana upgrades, patches, and health checks.

• Monitor Instana backend components (datastore, ingestion, UI, collectors).

Monitoring & Observability

• Configure monitoring for:

• Applications (Java, JVM, Node.js, .NET, etc.)

• Infrastructure (CPU, memory, disk, network)

• Kubernetes / Open Shift workloads

• Middleware platforms

• Create custom dashboards for:

• Application health

• Infrastructure utilization

• Queue depth, JVM memory, response time

• Business‑critical KPIs

• Implement Smart Alerts, thresholds, and incident triggers.

Alerting & Incident Support

• Integrate Instana with BHC Helix BHOM and BMC Helix ITSM, Service Now, email, Teams, Pager Duty, or other alerting tools.

• Support L2/L3 production incidents using Instana traces, events, and metrics.

• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) using Instana’s AI‑driven insights.

• Participate in on‑call and 24×7 support rotations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Mandatory Skills

• 7+ years of experience in monitoring / observability tools.

• Strong hands‑on experience with IBM Instana administration.

• Experience deploying and managing Instana agents.

• Strong Linux (RHEL) administration skills.

• Solid understanding of:

• Application Performance Monitoring (APM)

• Distributed tracing

• Metrics and alerting concepts

• Experience in incident management and RCA.

Platform & Technology Skills

• Kubernetes / Open Shift monitoring using Instana.

• JVM and application performance analysis.

• Network, CPU, memory, disk monitoring.

• Integration with ITSM tools (Service Now preferred).

Good‑to‑Have Skills

• Monitoring of IBM middleware:

• IBM MQ

• IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE)

• IBM Web Sphere (WAS)

• IBM Data Power

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP).

• Exposure to DevOps / SRE practices.

• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace, App Dynamics.

• Scripting knowledge: Shell / Python.
