Lead Data Engineer at Wells Fargo

About this role:

• Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Data Engineer.In this role, you will:
• Lead complex initiatives with broad impact and act as key participant in large scale software planning for the Technology area
• Design, develop, and run tooling to discover problems in data and applications and report the issues to engineering and product leadership
• Review and analyze complex software enhancement initiatives for business, operational or technical improvements that require in depth evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles or unprecedented factors
• Make decisions in complex and multi-faceted data engineering situations requiring understanding of software package options and programming language and compliance requirements that influence and lead Technology to meet deliverables and drive organizational change
• Strategically collaborate and consult with internal partners to resolve highly risky data engineering challenges

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Additional Required Qualifications:

• Experience in Data Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
• GCP, Big query, Starburst, Dremio, Pyspark, Python

Job Expectations:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest and transform data from multiple sources.
• Write optimized Python scripts for data processing, automation, and integration workflows.
• Leverage Py Spark to process and analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured data on distributed computing platforms (e.g., Databricks, AWS EMR, Azure HDInsight).
• Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views for data extraction, transformation, and reporting.
• Migrate and re-engineer legacy SAS programs/macros into modern Python/Py Spark equivalents.
• Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across data pipelines and warehouses.
• Document data flows, transformations, and pipeline logic for maintainability.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize existing data workflows and jobs.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices in the data engineering team.
• Expert in GCP Data engineering
