Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.
This role reports to our Charging Infrastructure Program Manager.
You will:
-
Develop and refine engineering designs, specifications, and procedures to eliminate single points of failure across mechanical, electrical, and civil systems in critical facilities (e.g., service centers, vehicle chargers).
-
Perform rigorous Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on existing and proposed systems to identify weaknesses and quantify risk, providing clear recommendations for mitigation.
-
Act as the subject matter expert to review all design documents, equipment specifications, construction submittals, and factory test results to ensure compliance with targeted redundancy topologies.
-
Create detailed Integrated Systems Testing and operational readiness procedures to validate the failover capabilities and resilience of complex, inter-dependent utility and infrastructure systems including Smart Building Automation.
-
Ensure all redundancy designs and modifications adhere to relevant industry standards, codes (e.g., NFPA, ASHRAE, seismic codes), and internal reliability metrics and availability SLAs. Ensure all redundancy projects are completed within allocated time and budget.
-
Collaborate with project managers and vendor partners to prioritize and scope capital improvement projects focused on redundancy upgrades, system modernization, and mitigating facility risks.
You have:
-
6 + years of professional experience in designing, implementing, and commissioning mission-critical infrastructure, specifically within mechanical (HVAC, cooling systems), electrical power (UPS, switchgear, generators), and/or civil/structural systems.
-
Expert-level knowledge of diverse redundancy topologies (e.g., N, N+1, N+2, 2N, 2N+1) and the ability to design and validate systems ensuring target Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for uptime and availability.
-
Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams and external consultants, driving the redundancy review process from conceptual design through construction.
-
Thorough understanding of relevant building codes, industry standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tiers, ANSI/TIA-942), and safety regulations related to critical power, fire suppression, and structural integrity.
We prefer:
-
Certification or Industry Designation in Project, Engineering or Facilities Services
-
Experience in mixed use environments - office, industrial, labs or manufacturing
-
Demonstrable PM skills; able to advance projects with undefined scope, influence and align stakeholders
Travel requirements:
- This role requires travel approximately 35% of the time. Specifically, the employee will be expected to travel between Bay Area and Washington DC locations as part of their job responsibilities.
((Remote jobs only
