You will:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend services and APIs primarily using C++.

  • Build and optimize the data pipelines and infrastructure that power Waymo's critical event triage and analysis platforms

  • Collaborate closely with front-end engineers, Product Managers, and other engineering teams to define APIs, data models, and system architecture.

  • Contribute to system design, architectural decisions, and best practices for backend development within the team.

  • Integrate with AI/ML platforms and infrastructure to power intelligent product experiences.

  • Monitor, debug, and optimize the performance and reliability of backend systems.

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development.

  • Proficiency in C++ and experience with building production-grade services.

  • Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and best practices.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and lead technical discussions.

We prefer:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.

  • Experience with ML frameworks, libraries, and cloud-based platforms

  • Experience with Java

  • Experience with web front-end development, including Type

Script and Angular:

  • Experience leveraging AI-powered developer tools to improve software development velocity; experience building or augmenting such tools is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Google's internal development tools and infrastructure.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process.

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.

Salary Range**$204,000—$259,000 USD**
