Your New Role...

As Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) portfolio continues to grow – around the world and across platforms – the Technology & Operations (T&O) team is building media technology and IT systems that meet world class standards for which WBD is known. T&O builds, implements, and maintains the business systems and technology that are critical for delivering WBD’s products, while articulating the long-term technology strategy that will enable WBD’s growing pay-tv, digital terrestrial, free-to-air and online services to reach more audiences on more platforms.

Reporting to an Operations Manager, this position is critical to monitoring and supporting Warner Bros. Discovery’s Global television distribution infrastructure. You will be a part of our Tier 1 behind-the-scenes operations support team expected to have a versatile skill set both technically and personally with the ability to stay focused and continually develop as an experienced and skilled technician. Operators in this role will have experience in leading difficult situations, adapting to changing situations and responsibilities quickly and without issue, staying calm, reacting quickly under pressure and being able to execute on the key responsibilities noted below. This is an onsite essential role, in Sterling Virginia.

The position is shift-based, your shift may rotate on a bi-monthly basis. You will be working as part of a team that is responsible for monitoring, recovering, troubleshooting, escalating and reporting (written and verbal) issues on linear and IP delivered distribution feeds across North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America. Teamwork is a key element to this role, within the Operations groups as well as across the engineering teams and stakeholders we support.

Your Role Accountabilities...

• Monitor the health of on-air and backup distribution systems, confirming all Warner Bros. Discovery services the Sterling DMCC are responsible for, at any given time, are operational and operating within proper performance specifications (linear and IP deliveries)
• Handle switching of transmission systems (including compression systems and teleport systems) during normal or emergency conditions to ensure that all services remain on air.
• Provide input and issue written reports to various factions of the Technology & Operations groups about investigations into transmission outages and/or timeline of events around an issue.
• Perform routine system checks of transmission equipment to spot degradation or services or failures and respond appropriately to recover air service or escalate to the appropriate team for resolution.
• An awareness around the national fiber connectivity between WBD facilities and remote locations throughout the world that are involved in the distribution feeds monitored.
• Assist with training, coaching and development of fellow Distribution Staff Members as needed.
• Coordinate escalation process and ensure SOPs are followed, Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met and adhered to and risk mitigated.
• Outage vetting – initiating of critical outage situations including determination of severity (1, 2, and 3 based on SLA). Issue outage notifications/updates/resolution.
• Implement, or assist with implementation of, changes to distribution infrastructure and workflows.
• Work closely with other Technology & Operations and Distribution staff to ensure success of daily operations, including Engineering and other Operations teams.
• Coordinate communication and/or escalation process to third-party vendors.
• Serve as a liaison between other support teams as required by working collaboratively and across multiple leadership levels and areas within the company.
• Provide support to the Operations Manager in the management of outages as needed, providing communications to small and large-scale user groups.
• Be proactive and ensure constant follow up with involved teams to ensure resolution or root cause is provided.
• Ability to embrace and support new technologies introduced firsthand to Distribution
• Create and update documentation and procedures.
• Proactively keep Knowledge Base(s) up-to-date.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications & Experiences...

• 4-7 years of experience in operations or transmission/compression or broadcast operations systems preferred
• Working knowledge of C-band RF experience
• Working experience with Television Distribution Systems – fiber and satellite based, as well as Satellite Monitoring and control Systems
• Able to work without supervision, combining initiative with discretion
• Computer literacy, excellent oral and written communication abilities and close attention to details are required.
• This is considered an essential position. This means that during times of inclement weather, emergencies, or when access to the workplace may be impeded, that employees in this position are expected to report to work to support business continuance, unless otherwise instructed by his/her direct manager. Overnight, weekend, holidays, and rotating shifts are required as this is a 365/24/7 mission critical position to support the distribution reliability of Warner Bros. Discovery services.

• Flexibility to work evening, weekend, and overnight shift
• Understand and be able to work with monitoring systems and related technologies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a friendly disposition
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Must be able to independently research, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within established Service Level Agreements
• Ability to maintain focus in a high pressure environment and work across multiple personality sets communication and learning styles.
