Ophthalmic Technician- Medical Optometry / Specialty Contact Lens Clinic

UPMC is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Medical Optometry and Specialty Contact Lens Clinic at Mercy Vision Institute, located at 1622 Locust Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. This position offers a Monday through Friday daylight schedule, with hours between 7:30 AM and 5:00 PM, and no evenings or weekends. Travel to other locations is extremely limited (less than 5%); however, flexibility to assist other departments within the building as needed is required. In this role, you will provide comprehensive patient work-ups in both the Medical Optometry and Optical Clinics, including obtaining patient histories, performing lensometry, autorefractor measurements, visual acuity testing, color vision and stereo testing, visual fields, pupil assessments, motility testing, i Care tonometry, dilation, contact lens insertions, and contact lens insertion and removal training. Additional responsibilities include patient communication, ancillary testing, and supporting providers in delivering exceptional vision care and patient experiences.

Responsibilities:

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity Lensometry: automated and manual Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
• Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test Angle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
• Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.
• Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Valid CPR certification:

• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
