About the Role

The streaming platform team is responsible for providing the messaging and streaming processing technology offerings to the engineering teams at Uber. We provide infrastructure and platform services to power tens of trillions of Kafka messages per day and thousands of Flink jobs and workflows, process trillions of messages per day with seconds latency and data freshness.

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Engineering Manager to lead the team to refine and optimize our streaming platform capabilities while keeping a close tie with our stakeholders. You will be in the center of the action through building solutions that drive our business by building the roadmap, scaling our current streaming system, exploring venture bets and collaborating with experts in infrastructure and product managers to deliver results

What the Candidate Will Do ----:

1. Manage a sizable team with EM and TLM reporting to this role
2. Reshape the architecture of a high-performance streaming platform, prioritizing scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
3. Collaborate with several cross-functional teams to define requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
4. Lead the team to develop and implement state-of-the-art streaming platform, enhancing quality, reliability and performance.
5. Drive solutions and implementations that seamlessly scale with the growing needs of our user base.
6. Optimize existing streaming infrastructure for efficiency, latency, and freshness.
7. Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge exchange and continuous improvement

---- Basic Qualifications ----

1. Experience with highly available/fault tolerant, replicated data storage systems, large scale data processing systems or enterprise/cloud storage systems is also a strong plus
2. 3+ years of experience managing 10+ people engineering team
3. 8+ years of experience building and managing distributed systems. Sound understanding of distributed system fundamentals

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

Under the hood experience with Apache Flink, Apache Kafka, Apache Storm, Apache Samza and other Streaming technologies is a strong plus

• For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD**$267,000 per year**
• USD**$297,000 per year**.
