About the Role:

We build and maintain the core infrastructure of a d istributed, fault-tolerant platform that orchestrates mission-critical logic at scale. You'll work at the heart of the system, solving deep distributed systems challenges related to persistence, high concurrency, and extreme reliability. Your contributions will directly empower engineering teams to build stateful, resilient applications that handle massive throughput without data loss or downtime.

What the Candidate Will Do:

  • Design, implement, and test core components and new features of our distributed backend platform, primarily using Go.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex bugs and performance bottlenecks within a multi-tenant, distributed environment.
  • Optimize and scale the platform's infrastructure, including the persistence layer, sharding mechanisms, and service discovery logic.
  • Collaborate across teams by reviewing architectural designs, participating in technical discussions, and improving system documentation.
  • Support system reliability by participating in an on-call rotation, ensuring the stability of services that other developers depend on.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong systems programming experience in Go (Golang), or deep expertise in languages like Java, C++, or Rust with a proven ability to pivot to Go quickly.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems**, including practical experience with concurrency primitives, fault tolerance, and consistency models.**
  • Proven track record of building, testing, and operating large-scale, high-availability services.
  • Experience with persistent storage, including working knowledge of SQL or NoSQL systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, or DynamoDB).

Uber's mission is to reimagine the way the world moves for the better. Here, bold ideas create real-world impact, challenges drive growth, and speed fuelds progress. What moves us, moves the world - let's move it forward, together.

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are expected to be in-office for 100% of their time. Please speak with your recruiter to better understand in-office expectations for this role.
