Uber One is Uber's flagship membership program and one of the company's most critical strategic growth levers. With 46millionmembers as of the end of 2025 - up 55% year-over-year - and approaching50%oftotal grossbookings**, Uber One has become central to how Uber drives platform engagement, cross-product adoption, and long-term retention across Rides, Delivery, and Grocery.**
The membership program is a powerful flywheel: Uber One members spend 3xmore than non-members and retain35%better across platforms. Cross-platform users who engage with both Mobility and Delivery generate over3xthegrossbookings of single-product users - and Uber One is the primary vehicle for driving that cross-platform behavior. The program delivers meaningful savings to members through ride discounts, free delivery, surge savings, cash back, priority service, and exclusive partner benefits (Amex, Open Table, Clear Plus, Lime), creating a compelling value proposition that deepens user loyalty to the Uber ecosystem.
The Uber One Membership Product Engineering organization comprises 70+engineersworkingacross8pillars**- all in service of growing membership coverage, increasing user engagement, and delivering significant savings that drive long-term retention and lifetime value. This is a team whose work directly impacts Uber's top-line growth, retention curves, and platform economics at global scale.**
As the Senior Staff Software Engineer and Tech Lead for this organization, you will set the technical vision and architecture across one of Uber's highest-impact growth levers. You will operate at the intersection of product engineering, platform design, and cross-functional strategy - partnering closely with Product, Data Science, Marketing, and business stakeholders to build the systems that power membership acquisition, engagement, benefits delivery, and retention for tens of millions of members worldwide.
- What You Will Do
- Settechnicaldirection across various engineering pillars encompassing membership growth, retention, benefits delivery, experimentation, and platform infrastructure - ensuring architectural coherence and high engineering standards across a 70+ engineer organization- Designandevolvelarge-scaledistributedsystems that power membership lifecycle management, benefits eligibility and fulfillment, savings computation, and real-time personalization across Uber's Rides, Delivery, and Grocery surfaces- Leadcomplex,multi-teamtechnicalinitiatives with significant cross-organizational dependencies - coordinating with Eats, Rides, Grocery, Payments, Pricing, Fares, Fulfillment Engineering teams to deliver integrated membership experiences- Drivedata-informedproductengineering by building instrumentation, establishing OKRs, and leveraging experimentation (A/B testing, holdout analysis) to optimize membership coverage, conversion, engagement, and savings delivery- Architectforscaleandreliability**- designing systems that handle millions of real-time membership eligibility checks, benefits applications, and personalized offer computations with low latency and high availability**- Mentorandelevateengineers across the organization, including Senior and Staff-level ICs, raising the technical bar and fostering a culture of engineering excellence, code quality, and operational rigor- Shapetechnicalstrategy in partnership with Product Management, Data Science, and business leadership - translating membership growth and engagement objectives into engineering roadmaps and architectural decisions- Deliverandreview technical designs, code, and documentation to a high standard, championing best practices in service architecture, data management, and deployment
- Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
- 10+ years of professional software development experience, building and operating systems in production environments
- Strong expertise in backend development, distributed systems, and system design for large-scale, low-latency applications
- Demonstrated ability leading complex, multi-team technical initiatives with significant cross-organizational dependencies and design complexity
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Product, Data Science, Marketing, and business stakeholders
- Proven ability to mentor and elevate other engineers, including Senior and Staff-level ICs
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience building and scaling membership, subscription, or loyalty platform systems

Proven track record of setting technical direction for a large engineering organization (50+ engineers across multiple teams)

Experience with full-stack product engineering - building consumer-facing features that span backend services, APIs, and client integration points

Deep experience with experimentation frameworks, A/B testing at scale, and data-driven product development

Background in pricing, personalization, or recommendation systems

Experience with multi-sided marketplace dynamics and understanding of how membership programs drive platform network effects

Proficiency in languages such as Go, Java, or Python, with strong foundations in performance optimization and debugging across complex stacks

Experience designing systems that span multiple business verticals (e.g., Rides, Delivery, Grocery) with shared platform layers

Track record of driving both technical innovation and raising organizational engineering standards across a large, distributed team

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with comfort navigating ambiguous, high-impact problem spaces

Familiarity with agentic AI patterns and LLM-powered systems, with a track record of driving AI adoption across engineering teams to accelerate development velocity and product innovation

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
