About the Role:

The Strategy & Advocacy team partners closely with Uber's Policy, Legal, and Operations teams to address major policy and regulatory challenges globally.

We produce research and analysis that informs advocacy, shapes business strategy, and supports leadership decision-making across Uber's markets, regions, and lines of business. We bring clarity to complex issues, and help our partners weigh competing interests. We are part of the Policy, Research and Economics org of economists, researchers, and data scientists.

We are looking for an economics-minded applied scientist to execute on high-profile projects.

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Conduct careful statistical and econometric analysis of regulations, risks, and opportunities-on topics relating to drivers and courier pay rules, consumer pricing, government-mandates (e.g., taxes, insurance, fees), autonomous vehicles, and other marketplace issues.
  2. Partner with regional policy teams to develop evidence-based policy positions and to support advocacy efforts.
  3. Collaborate with Product, Legal, and Operations to align business concerns with policy perspectives.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Economics or another quantitative field. Candidates with a relevant PhD and/or extensive experience will be evaluated (and compensated) commensurate with their education and experience.
  2. Minimum 1 year of quantitative research or data science experience.
  3. Strong data skills and experience with SQL, Python, or R.
  4. Ability to work independently and execute analyses with minimal oversight.
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to synthesize information into clear, actionable recommendations.

  1. Proficiency in Python and experience working efficiently with data at scale.
  2. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills-to explain complex issues and to persuade internal and external stakeholders using data, research, and policy ideas.
  3. Ability to identify opportunities, research, or data that improve our policy positions.
  4. Project management skills and experience working in a cross-functional environment with legal, policy, and business leaders.
  5. Passion for Uber's mission.
  • For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD**$161,000 per year**
  • USD**$179,000 per year**.

You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
