About the Role

Engineering on the u Plan team means building platforms that shape how Uber plans, builds, and launches products at a global scale. The problems span the entire development lifecycle-from ideation and documentation to production readiness-where systems must balance speed, compliance, and usability. You'll make decisions in ambiguous spaces, design for both humans and AI agents, and help reduce friction across one of the most complex engineering organizations in the world.

As a Software Engineer on u Plan, you will design and build full-stack systems that power AI-assisted documentation, workflow orchestration, and feature lifecycle management. This is not just about building tools-it's about creating a central source of truth that reduces engineering toil and accelerates safe, compliant launches worldwide. Your work will directly impact how every engineering and product team at Uber operates, giving you the opportunity to drive meaningful improvements in productivity, velocity, and global reach

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

1. Design, build, and maintain core components of the u Plan platform, spanning frontend, backend, and platform integrations that serve engineering and product teams across Uber's SDLC.
2. Lead end-to-end development of new product capabilities, from technical design and implementation to testing, rollout, and monitoring.
3. Participate in the team's on-call rotation, ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of u Plan's critical services.
4. Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and partner engineering teams to translate PRDs and ambiguous requirements into scalable, well-architected solutions.
5. Drive improvements in developer experience and reduce engineering toil through automation, intelligent workflows, and AI-assisted document authoring tools.
6. Contribute to Uber's Agentic AI ecosystem, helping evolve u Plan into a foundational orchestration and data layer for human and AI agents

---- Basic Qualifications ----

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science(or related field) with 4**+ years of experience** building and operating complex, distributed systems.
2. Strong understanding of computer architecture and core CS fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, concurrency, and system design.
3. Excellent problem-solving and coding abilities, demonstrated through production systems, academic work, or impactful research projects.
4. Experience across the full software development lifecycle, including technical design, planning, implementation, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing maintenance.
5. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners including product, design, data, and engineering teams.
6. Growth mindset and passion for continuous learning, exploring new technologies, domains, and ways to improve developer experience.
7. High ownership, resilience, and drive, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-quality results in fast-moving environments.
8. Proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Python, Java, or Go, with experience building and optimizing web-based or service-oriented systems.
9. Experience with GenAI or LLM-powered applications (e.g., document automation, agents, retrieval systems)

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

1. Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
2. Experience building high-quality customer-facing UIs and complex internal platforms/tools that support large engineering or product organizations.
3. Experience with MCP-style architectures, developer platforms, or systems that expose structured data to human- and AI-based agents.
4. Exposure to or interest in agentic AI systems, autonomous workflows, or AI-driven SDLC tooling.
5. Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction, drive engineering best practices, and mentor other engineers.
