The Head of First Line Credit Risk and Portfolio Strategy is a senior leadership role reporting into the Head of Wholesale Credit Delivery. This position is responsible for providing strategic oversight and direction across Wholesale credit delivery’s risk governance and portfolio strategy optimization. This leader bridges credit risk management, portfolio construction, regulatory governance, and performance analytics to ensure alignment with Enterprise and Wholesale Banking objectives, regulatory requirements, and market-leading standards. The role fosters cross-functional collaboration, drives innovation, and ensures operational excellence in managing credit portfolios for institutional and wholesale clients. This position will manage a team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESFollowing is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Risk and Regulatory Governance: Serve as the strategic connector between first line credit delivery, second line credit risk, and enterprise partners. Ensure disciplined risk ownership, represent the organization in governance forums and regulatory engagements, and drive clarity across risk and regulatory issues. Interpret and integrate regulatory guidance into operational frameworks, policies, and credit risk practices.
- Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Compliance: Partner with risk and regulatory leaders to set, monitor, and adjust KRI thresholds, influencing business mix and risk appetite. Own first line responsibilities for KRI calibration, reporting, and escalation. Ensure compliance processes, alerts, and documentation are consistently maintained and aligned with enterprise and regulatory standards.
- Strategic Partnership & Portfolio Optimization: Align credit and sales strategies to optimize portfolio growth and profitability while maintaining robust risk practices. Collaborate with product, relationship management, investment, finance, and IT teams to define client selection criteria, underwriting parameters, and technology-driven process improvements. Deliver market and portfolio insights to senior leadership, supporting responsible loan growth and enhanced portfolio composition.
- Portfolio Oversight & Performance Analytics: Lead end-to-end oversight of credit portfolios, ensuring adherence to risk management frameworks and regulatory standards. Automate data solutions, establish reporting systems, and monitor risk and performance metrics at fund and enterprise levels. Conduct portfolio reviews, trend analyses, and scenario modeling to identify emerging risks and growth opportunities.
- Cross-Functional Leadership & Culture: Mentor and lead cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and proactive risk identification. Advocate for balanced growth and prudent risk-taking, communicate effectively with senior leadership and regulators, and ensure clarity and consistency across credit delivery and enterprise stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:

15+ years of experience in credit risk management, portfolio oversight, credit strategy, or related disciplines.2. Deep expertise in credit risk concepts, regulatory frameworks (e.g., OCC, Basel), portfolio analytics, and technology-driven process improvement.

Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence senior stakeholders, and navigate complex governance structures.

Exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; confident spokesperson in executive and regulatory settings.
Preferred Qualifications:1. Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or equivalent) in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field.
2. Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, or PRM.
3. Experience with digital transformation initiatives or implementation of advanced analytics in credit risk management.
4. Demonstrated success in managing regulatory examinations and remediation efforts.
