Job Summary

The Tax Analyst – U.S. Federal Compliance supports the U.S. Federal Compliance team in preparing, coordinating, and documenting key federal income tax deliverables, preparing and reviewing tax returns, global income tax provision, conducting tax research and supporting the company’s tax planning initiatives. The position will also have a role in modernizing how compliance and reporting data is gathered, validated, analyzed, and reported to improve accuracy, reduce manual effort and strengthen process and controls. The successful candidate will collaborate across Tax, Finance, and Tax Technology partners to build repeatable data-driven solutions that enhance compliance and reporting readiness and transparency. The position provides hands on exposure to corporate income tax compliance and reporting in a large multinational environment.

This role is designated as hybrid in Davidson, NC or another designated U.S. Trane office location.

Key Competencies (critical skills)

  • Working knowledge of U.S. federal income tax compliance concepts and strong attention to detail; ability to document processes and maintain clear audit-ready workpapers.
  • Analytical mindset with experience manipulating and reconciling data sets (Excel proficiency required; comfort working with large or complex data sources).
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes through standardization and automation; comfort partnering cross-functionally to translate tax needs into data requirements
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to both tax and non-tax stakeholders, including translating data results into practical actions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supports the preparation, coordination and review of U.S. federal income tax compliance deliverables, including preparation of proforma returns, supporting workpapers, and data collection for the consolidated tax return.
  • Contribute to the development of the consolidated return to provision schedules for the U.S. group.
  • Research the income tax positions and methods, monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and collaborate with the team to evaluate the impact on the Company.
  • Prepare U.S. Federal estimated tax payments and global cash tax forecasts.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual global income tax provision under U.S. GAAP (ASC740), including supporting calculations, roll forwards and workpapers.
  • Support income tax-related external reporting requirements by preparing schedules and documentation for review by senior team members.
  • Collaborate with Tax Technology and cross functional partners to drive process improvements, enhance automation, and strengthen data integrity and efficiency across compliance workflows.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related discipline. Progress toward CPA or Masters in Taxation and/or Data & Analytics preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in US income tax compliance and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience synthesizing large data sets and using it for compliance reporting analysis and dashboarding.
  • Foundational knowledge of U.S. GAAP income tax accounting concepts (ASC740) is a plus.
  • Strong accounting, attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy and appropriate documentation discipline.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Work, Powerpoint, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with tax and finance data sources and/or tax systems used in corporate environments (examples referenced within our org include Onestream, Oracle, One Source, Corptax or similar).
  • Familiarity with analytics tooling such as Dataiku, Alteryx, Tableau/Power BI, or SQL; ability to automate recurring data prep and validation steps
  • Prior experience supporting process improvement, standard work, or controls documentation in a compliance environment.
