Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Environmental Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Environmental Engineering Candidate.

This role is based at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) site, where the Environmental Operations group focuses on protecting the environment and ensuring compliance with air, water, and waste regulations, as well as Toyota's Enhanced Environmental Management System standards.

The position will support the site’s environmental program, primarily ensuring compliance with Federal EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and State air, water and waste regulations. It will also involve assisting with TMMK’s environmental permits and meeting current and future regulatory requirements.

What you’ll be doing

  • Oversee and ensure compliance with all permits for air, water and waste

  • Interpret and implement activities related to new Federal and State regulations ensuring action plans are developed to meet all new requirements

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of environmental performance, incidents, and compliance activities

  • Site lead for energy management and Environmental Action Plan (EAP) milestones and projects

  • Support and prepare annual reports for review and submittal related to air, water and waste regulatory reporting requirements

  • Use data analytics to track environmental KPIs and support decision-making processes, with emphasis on energy, water and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) management

  • Understand all environmental program requirements for assigned shops

  • Lead TMMK with programs to maintain compliance with TMC and TMNA internal requirements, including shop audits for Toyota EEMS

  • Investigate environmental incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions

  • Provide environmental support for Region 1 PDC sites

What you bring

  • Bachelor of Science or higher educational level achieved in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Environmental Science, or at least 5+ years of relevant environmental work experience

  • Experience with environmental compliance in a manufacturing setting, including setting up processes to comply with regulations (e.g. permit and regulatory reporting support)

  • Experience with project management specifically related to environmental KPI improvements

  • Experience with ISO 14001 and the application in a manufacturing setting, including setting up processes to comply with standards

  • Experience with Federal and State environmental regulations

  • Experience developing and using Power BI and/or database systems

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (Proficiency = ability to work with VLOOKUP's, Pivot Tables, and Macro Commands)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Access (Proficiency = the ability to develop advanced queries including SQL statements and implement VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) for automation and custom functions)

  • Ability to work weekends and shutdowns, as necessary

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, as needed

  • A motor vehicle record that’s acceptable by company standards is required for this position for occasionally driving to shops and around the site (this position requires driving)

  • Experience with Toyota Production System or similar lean methodologies

Added bonus if you have

  • Master of Science or higher in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or Environmental Science

  • Knowledge of Kentucky Stormwater and Groundwater Regulations

  • Knowledge of Federal/State Air, Water, and Waste Regulations

  • Experience in the automotive industry / vehicle production

  • Knowledge of Toyota internal and regulatory environmental requirements

  • Experience coordinating projects with internal plant personnel, outside contractors and vendors

  • Experience preparing documents and visual presentations, presentation skills, and gaining approval of project proposals

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations (Air and Waste)
