The Senior Director, Finance partners directly with the CIO and leadership team to deliver financial performance, optimise investment, and enable strategic decision-making across Operations & Technology. The CIO organization delivers enterprise technology across infrastructure, security, corporate systems, commercial engineering, employee technology, service management, M&A integration, and customer trust — enabling TR to operate, innovate, and scale globally.
About the Role
The Senior Director, Finance will act as the business partner to the Chief Information Officer, working directly with them and their leadership team to meet expense and capital targets and support the delivery of business objectives. There are 3,500 FTEs and contractors across the CIO organization, which are divided into pillars with a total annual cash OI of $750M. The role reports to the VP, Decision Support & Insights Group (DSIG), and is a member of both the CIO Leadership team and the Operations & Technology Finance Leadership team. Additional key relationships/stakeholders for the role include the relevant HR business partners, Corporate Finance, CIO pillar leads, CIO Chief of Staff, Product Engineering, Product, Vendor Management, Corporate Development, the Chief Accountant’s Office and the Enterprise Prioritization Committee (EPC).
About the Role
In this opportunity as Senior Director, Finance
, you will:-Lead finance business partnering: Partner with CIO and leadership to deliver financial and operational targets
- Own technology spend strategy: Govern Software, Telecom and IT spend, budgets, and forecasts
- Drive investment decision-making: Build business cases, ROI models, and capital plans
- Optimize cost and performance: Improve resource utilisation, productivity, and efficiency
- Deliver financial planning & reporting: Lead budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
- Support commercial outcomes: Provide financial input to vendor negotiations and cost modelling
- Enable M&A activity: Lead due diligence, integration modelling, and synergy tracking
- Strengthen stakeholder partnership: Align CIO with Product, Engineering, and business teams
- Ensure financial integrity: Partner with Accounting on accurate financial treatment
- Lead and develop team: Build capability and performance of the finance team
- Drive finance transformation: Advance automation, analytics, and financial systems
About You
You're a fit for the role of Senior Director, Finance if your background includes:
- Recognized accountancy qualification or equivalent with extensive experience in Finance roles. Relevant experience including experience with technology teams, capital planning and associated systems would be an advantage.
- Excellent communication and people skills; ability to converse with senior management openly and confidently and influence all areas of the business.
- Ability to synthesize information and present results in a clear and concise manner to senior executives.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and their application.
- Experience thinking strategically and building business development plans.
- Tenacious and driven by delivering results.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Interpersonal skills to guide and motivate global team members.
- Proactive, very organized, ability to multitask, managing time and competing priorities in a dynamic environment, anticipating and servicing evolving needs.
- Enjoys working in teams; shows ability to work effectively across all functions of the business.
- Customer focused, proactive, and has a good understanding of Thomson Reuters strategy and business model.
- Clear, effective communicator and comfortable presenting to large audiences.
