GROUP/DIVISION SUMMARY

The Drug Product Division (DPD), a business within the Pharma Services Group, operates as a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) for large & specialty pharma and biotech companies. The business offers development services & commercial production of drugs, improving the life of millions of patients every day.

POSITION SUMMARY

The role is focused on making significant contributions to profitability of the DPD Sterile EU & APAC Business Unit by effectively supporting and leading initiatives which will drive improved financial results. This position drives strategic change across the network, supports growth, and leads process improvement initiatives through the Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Continuous Improvement Business System (PPI) framework and digital technologies.

You will partner with BU leaders to identify and scope the highest productivity improvement projects.

You will facilitate cultural transformation and behavioral change and ensure the achievement of the strategic projects for each of the targeted sites. As a change agent, this position creates and implements plans that enhance employee engagement and helps move strategy into action to continuously improve, sustain, and scale business process.

This position is key to the operational and financial performance of the Business Unit.

This position will be remotely located. Need ability to travel regionally and globally up to 30%.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Identification and prioritization of Strategic/Transformational Projects:

Deliver improved financial performance across DPD. Work closely with Business Unit, Functional, and GPPI Leadership to identify the projects that will have the highest impact to performance across DPD. Lead diagnostic workshop to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities. Analyze projects for impact. Assess effort vs impact. Review resources required and site readiness. Present proposals to PPI Director and communicate plans to BU and Divisional Leadership.

Deployment of Strategic and Transformational Projects:

Prepare selected sites for Ground-breaking change. Partner with the site GM’s and SLT’s to develop and implement site Transformation/Digital roadmaps to enable the transformation change meeting business unit strategy and objectives. Work closely with partners to identify issues and problem-solve. Define scope, set goals, track performance, and quantify benefits. Identify risks and create mitigation plans. Track performance until sustainability has been achieved.

3. Deployment of Proven Practices and Standard Operating model across DPD

Identify and document standard processes and recipes. Work with GPPI Directors to develop deployment plans across Business Units. Support implementation of standard methodologies and recipes at prioritized sites. Ensure standard processes and recipes are being sustained and continuously improved.

4. Capability building and talent development

Provide support to develop change leadership within the organization at all levels. Improve the decision-making model and problem-solving capabilities within sites teams to increase autonomy and the pace of change. Support training of region or business unit sites personnel on new tools, practices and associated work processes, focusing on practical usage in day-to-day operations. Mentor and coach capabilities and behaviors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSEducation, Experience and Competency

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, operations or business, with evidence of operational, leadership, or professional experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Significant experience (5+ years) and a ‘hands-on’ track record of implementing successful improvement initiatives, including elements such as: Lean Leadership (Daily Management, Leader Standard Work, and Gemba Walks), Strategy Deployment and Value-stream mapping, Kaizen events on standard work, VA analysis, brainstorming sessions, error-proofing, SMED.
  • Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Consulting experience is a plus.
  • Expertise in problem-solving using a formal program/process
  • Consistent record for developing, training, and coaching teams.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, excel in a matrix environment.
  • Consistently identifying and delivering year-over-year results.
  • Innovative problem solver that adopts change, understands digital technology solutions and can identify implementation benefits for the organization.
  • Passion for driving improvement and leading change in a complex, global environment.
  • Confident with the ability to empower and energize others
  • Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes and financial business methods.
  • Strong communication and the ability to positively influence leadership and all levels of the organization.

  • Able to drive critical thinking and continuous improvement in both non-operational and operational areas, including connecting the cross-functional resources to remove waste along the extended value streams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including project management experience demonstrating strong influencing and partnership skills.
  • Shown success improvement initiatives in a big and diverse organization
  • Ability to build and interpret basic financial business cases
  • Good understanding of data and analytics concepts (KPIs, basic statistics, dashboards, visualization; ability to work with Data & Analytics teams on requirement definition).
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, compliance and the company’s values and leadership behaviors.
