How will you make an impact?

The Cost Accounting COE of Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Manager, Cost Accounting in San Jose, Costa Rica. The Manager, Cost Accounting will lead the Costa Rica Costing Team and be part of the Global Costing COE. This role will be a key partner that collaborates with the businesses that Cost Accounting serves to correctly value inventory, lead the monthly close, and support the Annual Cost Roll.

What will you do?

  • Direct ownership of the following areas of costing:

  • New SKU costing for several ERP systems

  • Demo inventory accounting

  • Intercompany Goods In-Transit accounting

  • E&O journal entries

  • Cost Roll support, including uploads of large volumes of data into ERPs

  • Internal and external Audit support

  • Lead your team of minimum 4 individuals to execute the monthly close for all closing tasks assigned to the Costa Rica Costing Team. Execute regular tasks relating to the monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial close process including journal entry approvals, reconciliation review and approvals.

  • Support technical accounting issues related to the month end and quarter end financial close and understand the accounting impact of proposed transactions to ensure US GAAP is maintained.

  • Become adept in data reporting and analytics from ERP systems, Cognos and other reporting tools. Use this skill set to support the Sr. Managers and the Finance Director in reporting and cost roll data analysis.

  • Interface with different functions and effectively communicate with all levels of employees within the company and demonstrate judgment, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with internal and external customers.

  • Prepare, review, and present financial schedules such as flux analyses, month-end reports, and other ad hoc schedules, as needed.

  • Strong written, presentation, and interpersonal skills required; must be able to present financial information in a meaningful, understandable way

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, meeting deadlines in an accurate and timely manner; must be detail oriented.

How will you get here?

Requirements:

  • Accounting Bachelor’s degree with +8 years of experience in similar positions.

  • +3 years of leadership experience.

  • B2+ English Level

  • Experience in Cost Accounting and Manufacturing is preferred.

  • Experience in JD Edwards and SAP ERP systems is required, preferably in Costing.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Keep track of all accounting activities in the month-end close and ensure they are completed in the stipulated time.

  • Demonstrates strong people leadership skills and an initiative/creativity to inspire change with a hands-on approach and a driven focus on results.

  • Must have the ability to mentor and develop direct reports, to form a high-performing team that is effective and adept in all Costing areas.

  • Excellent communication skills. An ability to summarize information and present it in a concise and effective manner to influence other members of the management team at the business unit, division, group and corporate levels.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to successfully interact with other parties (customers, suppliers, service providers, senior management, peers, etc.) in an international setting w/cultural difference.

  • A proven record of being able to multi-task and adapt to changing situations and varied demands. Ability to work in a fast paced, fluid environment on his/her own and handle numerous responsibilities.

  • Find opportunities for continuous improvement of processes and propose innovative solutions for the Cost Accounting COE to operate efficiently and profitably.
