What to Expect
We are seeking a highly motivated Design Manager who has experience with closing permits out to join our energy infrastructure engineering team. In this hands-on role, you will own the complete closeout of all open permits through intensive field coordination, rigorous as-built capture, and precise updating of existing drawings. Your ultimate goal is to bring every project to full documentation accuracy and official permit closure, ensuring our manufacturing facilities remain compliant and operationally ready. You will thrive in a dynamic environment that demands strong cross-discipline collaboration and a scrappy, resourceful mindset—getting things done efficiently by rolling up your sleeves, removing obstacles, and driving results with limited hand-holding. Ideal candidate would be a hands-on, results-driven professional who takes pride in finishing what others leave open. You combine solid MEP or architectural knowledge with strong field presence, cross-functional collaboration skills, and a scrappy “get-it-done” attitude. You excel at turning messy field conditions into clean as-builts and closed permits while building effective working relationships across disciplines—without needing a formal reporting structure.
What You’ll Do
- Lead intensive on-site field coordination to identify, track, verify, and resolve all open permit requirements across multiple projects
- Systematically capture accurate as-built conditions through detailed field walks, redlines, photographs, measurements, and direct collaboration with construction, trades, facilities, and operations teams
- Update and maintain existing drawings (MEP, architectural, and related disciplines) to precisely reflect final installed conditions
- Manage the full permit closeout lifecycle, including preparing and submitting documentation, coordinating with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), addressing comments, outsourcing projects and understanding proposals, schedules, costs, bid levelling, and driving permits to official closure
- Facilitate seamless cross-discipline collaboration between electrical, mechanical, plumbing, architectural, structural, construction, and facilities teams to gather information and resolve open items quickly
- Organize, prioritize, and track closeout deliverables, punch lists, RFIs, and outstanding issues in a fast-moving environment
- Maintain clear, organized documentation and records throughout the process, supporting the transition of accurate as-builts into facility archives and management systems
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering field, or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of professional experience in MEP coordination/design, architectural design, construction administration, field engineering, or facilities support
- Hands-on experience with field verification, as-built documentation, redlining, and drawing updates (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools preferred)
- Familiarity with permitting processes and coordinating with local jurisdictions/AHJs
- Strong understanding of cross-discipline collaboration and how MEP and architectural systems integrate in real-world construction and facilities environments
- Willingness to travel between sites and work flexible hours as needed to support closeout deadlines
- On site 5 days a week in Fremont, CA
