About the role

What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Launch Engineer to join our Energy Products team, focusing on the Megapack thermal system. With a strong background in mechanical design, you will collaborate cross-functionally to deliver and scale our products. This role will bridge the gap between design, manufacturing, and deployment, collaborating with partner teams to launch our thermal systems with an emphasis on quality, reliability, and scalability.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, production, supply chain, among others) to drive the successful launch of industrial product thermal systems
  • Component mechanical design ownership to resolve production issues, improve product field quality, and drive continuous product improvements to enhance thermal performance and reduce costs
  • Develop and optimize industrial processes for high-volume production, focusing on efficiency, quality, and scalability
  • Identify and resolve production bottlenecks during the launch phase by implementing assembly, process improvements
  • Create and maintain documentation, including process workflows, SOPs, assembly drawings, and launch checklists
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure component readiness and alignment with production timelines
  • Troubleshoot mechanical design issues during prototyping, manufacturing, and field deployment
  • Work with manufacturing, process, quality, NPI, and supply chain teams in the early development phase to ensure designs are scalable and cost-effective for mass production (DFM)
  • Support cross-functional teams in meeting aggressive project timelines and performance goals
  • Travel to support production launch and ramp (supplier visits, on-site at Tesla factories, etc.)

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally in energy storage, HVAC, or related industries
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, CATIA) and data analysis tools (Matlab, Excel, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly line setup, production scaling, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Experience with product launch cycles and cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving project needs
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal, casting, injection molding, and extrusions (or similar)
  • Experience with electromechanical components such as motors, sensors, harnesses, and PCBAs
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards for thermal and energy systems
  • Passion for sustainable energy and Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to amazing abundance
