What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a Field Technical Specialist to join our dynamic and evolving team within the EMEA Field Technical Operations department. As a Field Technical Specialist, you will provide first class technical support (onsite and remotely) to the Service and business operations and be the connection to Service Engineering and development teams to drive product improvements keeping our customers' vehicles on the road. As a Field Technical Specialist, you will engage with Service locations to support vehicles in critical states whilst developing Master Technicians to become self-sufficient in diagnosis and repair. Other duties include advanced discharging of HV batteries to be returned for remanufacturing and direct support for engineering tasks as assigned. A strong technical background in diagnosing complex electromechanical systems with heavy software content and deployed in safety-critical applications is needed. As a Field Technical Specialist, you must be passionate about diagnostics and must be a strong critical thinker with great fluency understanding technical system-level architecture and issues. Given this is a field base role, you will have to travel regularly supporting issues within your region.

What You'll Do

  • Provide technical support to diagnostic and repairs for teams dealing with complex issues in part of an escalation process
  • Document detailed diagnostics in Tesla’s case management tool, providing accurate fix steps and referring to the appropriate articles in the knowledge database
  • Review vehicle log data using the appropriate diagnostic tooling and resources
  • Provide operational feedback for service procedures, knowledgebase improvements, diagnostic tooling applications, safety concerns and training needs
  • Report new or trending field issues to engineering, development or factory teams to maintain a feedback loop for continuous product improvements
  • Collaborate with engineering and development teams in root cause analysis of new/trending issues by providing diagnostic data
  • Understand and conform to local legislation and safety guidelines when working onsite or remotely
  • Must be able to work independently in limited supervision environments and pivot at short notice to achieve a goal or objective
  • At times, you will be required to participate in team, technical or quality meetings to support and drive business needs
  • Ensure that programs and processes are developed, assessed, communicated, and administered in compliance with Tesla’s objectives

  • You must dedicate time to personal development to ensure you become fluent in using the tools and resources available to fulfil your role's requirements
  • During field support, it is pivotal to build a strong rapport with Service leadership and Lead or Master Technicians within the support locations in your region
  • In part of the escalation path, you are expected to build a professional working relationship with engineering and quality teams to drive product improvements
  • As a Field Technical Specialist, you will be expected to be fluent in the field technical support process
  • You have established a strong connection and feedback loop with Lead and Master Technicians within Service locations
  • You can start investigations into new or trending vehicle issues and liaise with senior or engineering staff to find a solution
  • Your workflow is well balanced between field and session support, ensuring you are actively present in-Service and delivery locations within your region


  • Requirements

  • Lead level Diagnostic Technician experience in software or hardware
  • Tesla certified Master Technician or equivalent in experience preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience as a Lead or Master certified OEM technician, diagnostics or field support engineer
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to follow instructions required
  • Must be fluent in English (additional foreign languages a plus/possible requirement for positions region requirement)
