Sr. Power Electronics System Integration Engineer, Industrial Energy Products
About the role
What to Expect
To ensure Tesla’s overall mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing our world-leading battery technology to the grid. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid-connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility levels.
Tesla Energy is seeking a Sr. Power Electronics System Integration Engineer to own system bring-up and validation of next-generation industrial energy storage products. You will lead hardware and firmware integration, build custom test infrastructure, and drive system-level validation to ensure our products meet the highest performance, reliability, and safety standards.
What You’ll Do
- Own end-to-end system bring-up, hardware validation, and characterization of next-generation Tesla industrial energy storage products
- Lead hardware and firmware integration, board-level debug, root-cause analysis, and drive mitigations through resolution
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate hardware and firmware functionality against system specifications
- Design and implement custom sub-system level test infrastructure to break down system-level validation into targeted, repeatable tests for critical hardware and firmware functions
- Conduct failure analysis on test and field failures to identify root cause and drive corrective action
- Collaborate cross-functionally with power electronics, firmware, thermal, and mechanical teams to ensure functional, performance, and safety requirements are met
- Drive continuous improvement in design and performance by providing data-driven feedback to design owners
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 4+ years of experience in power electronics design, integration, and testing
- In-depth understanding of HV/LV electronic components and expertise in developing associated characterization and validation test methods
- Strong understanding of power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC), gate drive design, magnetics design, and analog/digital circuit design
- Familiarity with networking and digital communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, etc.)
- Experience with Python, C, C++ and EE lab tools (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and surface issues within complex hardware/software systems
- Effective communicator with the ability to drive alignment across cross-functional teams
- Preferred: Experience designing and testing medium-voltage systems (1kV–35kV)
