About the role

What to Expect

We’re seeking a motivated, hands-on engineer with an electrical engineering background to join our Manufacturing Test Engineering team. This group designs and builds data-driven automated test equipment supporting Tesla’s power electronics and battery production lines.

You’ll play a key role in developing the “machine that builds the machine,” working closely with product design and manufacturing teams worldwide. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to learn while taking ownership in a fast-paced environment. This role requires up to ~20% domestic and international travel.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect fully automated testing machinery from first principles, optimizing cost, lead time, complexity, and test coverage
  • Develop detailed test specifications and execution plans while mentoring junior engineers on subsystem design and implementation
  • Research, specify, and integrate electrical test equipment including measurement tools, power supplies, sensors, and I/O devices
  • Design and review NFPA79/NEC/UL508A-compliant industrial electrical control panels
  • Implement and validate OSHA- and ISO-compliant industrial safety systems for high-voltage and mechanical hazards
  • Debug and optimize automated processes to improve reliability, reduce cycle time, and maximize uptime
  • Characterize and validate equipment and test processes using statistical methods such as GR&R and Cpk

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience specifying electrical test equipment including but not limited to power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers
  • Proficiency building complex machine schematics in EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical CAD software
  • Exposure to automation in an industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to high voltage power electronics (inverters, DC-DC converters, etc.)
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a similar engineering field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on controls/mechatronics/test/automation engineering experience
