About the role

What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a Lab / Engineering Technician to join our ceramic material team. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for pilot- and semi-pilot-scale material handling, synthesis, and testing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, the ability to identify anomalies during experiments, adaptability in modifying test plans as needed. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians to develop cutting-edge technologies that support sustainable transportation, energy storage, and generation.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform material handling and operate materials synthesis equipment such as shear mixers, ball mills, muffle furnaces, and tube furnaces

  • Perform wet chemistry techniques including agitation, filtration, and solvent evaporation

  • Conduct ceramic fabrication processes: slurry mixing, thermal processing

  • Operate ceramic material testing equipment for routine performance evaluation

  • Identify and report anomalies in samples, processes, or test results to engineers

  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies, ensuring a clean and organized work environment

What You’ll Bring

  • Hands-on experience with ceramic material synthesis

  • Familiarity with handling fine powders and maintaining sample integrity

  • Understanding of the physics and chemistry relevant to ceramic materials

  • Experience working in glove box environments

  • Ideally hold a high school dipmloma, or equivalent in related industry
