About the role

What to Expect
The process engineering team is creating the factory of the future by bringing conceptual designs to life, producing cutting-edge detailed designs of chemical and other factory utility systems that are fully integrated with the manufacturing processes. The Process Design Reliability Engineer will bring to bear a well-rounded mechanical engineering and reliability engineering background to support and optimize the overall process engineering team’s design efforts. This will include optimizing designs to improve reliability, improving mechanical specifications, developing and evaluating equipment specifications, challenging designs to achieve a balance between code compliance and reliability and lean, efficient designs, and supporting construction quality efforts.
What You’ll Do

  • Work directly with design teams as the mechanical reliability SME, representing both the design team’s goals of creating an efficient, lean design as well as representing the end user’s goals of installing a highly reliable system
  • Work directly with design teams in support of the development of novel detailed process designs for a wide range of fluid systems
  • Work directly with construction teams and contractors as the mechanical reliability SME, providing guidance related to the specification, installation and QA/QC of piping and equipment
  • Gather learning and improvement opportunities from construction teams and contractors and drive implementation of procedure and specification changes to improve future installation
  • Maintain existing Tesla mechanical specifications and procedures (piping, insulation, vessel, coatings, etc.) and drive improvement and simplification efforts
  • Provide guidance to design teams during project reviews with regards to maintenance access, spare parts lists, and recommended maintenance strategies and intervals
  • Support and assist maintenance team in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment issues

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the design, maintenance and reliability of complex manufacturing environments
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME and API construction and post-construction codes for piping, pressure vessels, and tanks; Relevant fixed equipment inspection certifications are a plus
  • Working knowledge of static and rotating equipment installation and troubleshooting
  • Capable of analyzing equipment failure modes, including providing reports and recommendations
  • Working knowledge of P&IDs and design modeling software (Caesar II, COMPRESS, Pipe-Flo) is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively
