What To Expect
The Quality Engineer, General Assembly will work as a member of Tesla’s Quality organization. The primary objective of this role is to support the production of high-quality electric vehicles through the continual improvement of process and product quality and the systems that surround them. The successful candidate for this position must be a problem-solver at his/her core, have a strong quality & customer-focused mindset, and have the personal drive and stamina for relentless, continual improvement.

What You'll Do

Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements; use of QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions

Establish and maintain quality performance metrics

Perform technical root-cause analysis of vehicle systems (Chassis, torque failures, brake system, etc.)

Coordinate and manage complex and continually changing chassis system specifications and deviations

Support the development of product specifications and tolerances, design and process FMEAs and DVAs

Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes

Drive containment and corrective actions implementation into manufacturing line / design / supplier

Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified for control of nonconforming product

Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement, working within the Tesla team to make it more efficient, safer and an enjoyable place to work

What You'll Bring

Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands-on role such as Failure Analysis / Manufacturing / Quality / Service in consumer electronics or automotive

Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc.

For entry level candidates, Co-ops, or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE; Solar vehicle

The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside

Exceptional problem solving and Failure Analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking

Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data

Programming Languages & Tools: SQL, Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus

Ability, willingness to travel domestically, and internationally (5% to 10%)

Must be detail oriented, effectively handle multiple priorities, have a strong quality mindset and have the ability to meet tight deadlines
