About the role

What to Expect

At Tesla Engineering Germany in Freiburg, we’re building the future of sustainable energy by developing innovative power electronics for energy storage and vehicle charging systems. Join our team to collaborate across different engineering areas, solve meaningful challenges creatively and transfer concepts from initial design, through prototyping and testing into real-world solutions.

This is an opportunity to support key projects, use modern tools, and work in state-of-the-art facilities to create technologies that shape how energy systems evolve. You get to work on advancing power electronics used for Tesla products globally, thereby directly contributing to the acceleration of the world's transition to sustainable energy.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks and test benches for high-power/high-voltage converters (AC/DC, DC/DC, up to 1000V and 100kW)
  • Develop instrument drivers and abstractions for oscilloscopes, power analyzers, source/measure units, electronic loads, grid simulators, and DAQ systems (SCPI, VISA, and similar interfaces)
  • Convert manual test plans and validation requirements into robust, automated test sequences with clear pass/fail criteria
  • Build data acquisition, logging, analysis, and reporting pipelines so results are consistent, traceable, and easy to interpret
  • Create detailed test plans according to requirements to validate functions, safety, and system performance
  • Perform hands-on bring-up, debugging, and characterization on the bench
  • Diagnose hardware, firmware, and test-setup issues in complex high-voltage/high-power systems, and give precise feedback to design and firmware teams
  • Follow best practices in test code quality, version control, reproducibility, and documentation
  • Leverage state-of-the-art AI models and Tesla-internal AI tools to accelerate your development, debugging, and test automation work
  • Adhere to safety policies and regulatory compliance specific to high-voltage and high-power applications

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, power electronics, computer engineering, or equivalent professional experience with demonstrated expertise
  • 2+ years of experience building test automation for electronic hardware, including instrument control and automated measurement
  • Solid electrical engineering fundamentals and hands-on bench experience with high-voltage/high-power converters (AC/DC, DC/DC, above 100V, 10kW)
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation, including experience with instrument communication (SCPI/VISA/pyVISA or similar) and data handling
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads, source/measure units, and grid simulators
  • Ability to translate validation requirements into structured, maintainable automated tests
  • Proficiency with Git for version control and comfort working in a Linux/Bash terminal environment
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset and strong English communication skills
  • Ability to deliver high-quality results while effectively managing shifting priorities and demanding conditions
  • Experience with AI/LLM-assisted coding, with a clear understanding of its strengths and limitations
