Sr. Battery System Integration Engineer, Energy Products
About the role
What to Expect
To ensure Tesla’s overall mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing our world-leading battery technology to the grid. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid-connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility levels.
Tesla Energy is seeking a Sr. Battery System Integration Engineer to own system-level firmware and software validation of next-generation industrial energy storage products. You will lead hardware, firmware, and software integration efforts, drive automated regression testing, and ensure release readiness across complex high-power systems.
What You’ll Do
- Own end-to-end integration, bring-up, and validation of battery systems for next-generation Tesla industrial energy storage products
- Lead hardware and firmware integration, board-level debug, root-cause analysis, and drive issues through resolution
- Develop and execute test plans to validate battery hardware and firmware functionality against system specifications
- Design and implement sub-system level test infrastructure to break down battery system validation into targeted, repeatable tests
- Conduct failure analysis in the lab and field to identify root cause and drive corrective action
- Collaborate cross-functionally with cell engineering, power electronics, firmware, thermal, and mechanical teams to meet functional, performance, and safety requirements
- Drive continuous improvement in battery system design and performance by providing data-driven feedback to design owners
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of experience in battery system or power electronics integration, development, or testing
- Understanding of battery management systems, HV/LV electronics, and associated characterization and validation methods
- Familiarity with power electronics fundamentals, analog/digital circuit design, and protection circuitry
- Familiarity with communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, TCP/IP, etc.)
- Experience with Python, C/C++, and lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, DAQ systems)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues within complex hardware/firmware systems
- Effective communicator with the ability to drive alignment across cross-functional teams
- Preferred: Experience with high-voltage battery or energy storage systems
