What To Expect
Tesla’s Business Development team for utility-scale battery storage is a global team that works to commercialise new technology, analyse markets, shape emerging business models, and advise energy business strategy.

Today’s energy storage market is growing rapidly, and our battery technology is critical for stabilising the grid, participating in electricity markets, producing green energy with solar/wind farms, and supporting the growth of data centres. Tesla wants to continue leading innovations in the energy sector and open an even larger wave of storage deployments across the Asia Pacific.

The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneur and business developer, someone who can quickly understand a problem, identify a solution, then draw on resources from across Tesla’s policy, product, sales, and engineering teams to implement it. This will also require a capable storyteller who is comfortable interfacing with senior teams from utilities, regulators, and developers, understanding their pain points, and tying it all together in a narrative that motivates change.

This position will report to the Staff Business Development Manager in the Business Development and Sales team, which has a collaborative, friendly, and outcome-focused culture with industry leaders and experts to learn from.

Tesla’s mission is to build a world of sustainable abundance, and this role will be central to achieving that.

What You'll Do

  • Identification – work closely with sales and build relationships with developers, utilities, investors, NSPs, and regulators to understand their biggest critical needs and pain points on the road to 100% renewable energy
  • Solution design - work closely with product, engineering, and policy teams to translate new technologies and designs into clear narratives, smart commercial models and terms, and new tools and resources.
  • Project development – work closely with owners to help formulate uses cases, costs, revenue strategies, commercial terms, and best-practice approaches to developing their storage projects.
  • Advocacy - convince key industry stakeholders to adopt our innovations and view of the future.
  • Help develop and execute a market expansion strategy for utility-scale battery storage across APAC.
  • Meet and build strong relationships with key stakeholders in APAC markets, and create market-changing opportunities together.

  • What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Excellent understanding of energy industry and knowledge of energy storage technology and value propositions.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Experience presenting to external senior teams, ideally in a sales, commercial, or BD role. Strong existing connections across the energy industry
  • Entrepreneurial mindset – self-starter who can qualify opportunities with little direction
  • Preference for candidates with experience at (or working closely with) developers, utilities, investors, banks, or engineering firms
  • Willingness to travel for work up to monthly, both interstate and internationally.
