What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start May 2026 and continue through summer term (ending approximately August 2026 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

The Tesla Energy architecture and modeling team is looking for an intern to help us bring battery and solar technology to the grid. This isn’t just any internship, it's a chance to make a real impact. Your work will help to facilitate a renewable energy ecosystem and redefine the way the world will use energy in the future. As part of the Modeling & Architecture team, your work will help define Tesla’s strategy to meet those goals by leveraging your physics fundamentals, simulation tools, systems optimization thinking and common sense. committed, fast moving and we believe a diverse team of motivated individuals can accomplish almost anything. What You'll Do

  • Uses physics-based modeling to develop electrical, thermal or battery models for energy products to support design decisions and future product development
  • Provides support in strategy, design, simulation and validation by closely working with applications, battery, power electronics and solar engineering teams
  • Responsible to balance efficiency, power, and generation capabilities against costs for our current products and future product roadmap through simulation modeling

What You'll Bring

  • Pursuing a Degree in Mechnical or related field

  • Great hands-on building and problem-solving skills

  • Coursework in power electronic, solar technology and/or battery technology

  • Solid engineering fundamentals – electrical/mechanical

  • Experience with Simulink/Matlab

  • Experience with solar, battery and power electronics energy storage design to optimize for efficiency and cost

  • Ability to generate and interpret simulation results

  • Experience with data analysis using Python/Spark is a plus

    Expected Compensation
    $20.00 - $50.00 + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
