About the role

What to Expect

We are looking for a Product Analyst with a strong engineering mindset to scale and automate our quoting engine. In this role, you will closely collaborate with Product, Finance, Business Operations, IT software and other project leaders to support the growth of Tesla’s energy business.

This position requires a combination of technical acumen in scripting languages, understanding of basic accounting principles, and understanding of test-driven software development best practices. Previous work with quoting tools, background in tooling and automation for financial products, and experience in the renewable energy sector will set you apart. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to turn complex requirements into elegant generalizations are essential to success.

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain the quoting engine: ensuring its structure, correctness, maintainability, and formal release discipline are held to an engineering standard
  • Use VBA and/or Python scripting to automate processes, validate inputs, and extend tool capabilities
  • Partner with Product to turn feature requirements into explicit, testable logic (constraints, configurations, pricing mechanics, and edge cases)
  • Partner with Finance to implement and maintain cost and pricing logic across all features (CAPEX/OPEX treatments, margin rules, discounting, and approvals)
  • Translate open-ended requirements into deterministic outputs (e.g., generate CAPEX/OPEX tables that satisfy NPV equivalence constraints across valid configurations)
  • Harden the Excel engine with tests/automation while designing the transition to a scalable backend by building a testing and validation suite (regression tests, “golden quotes,” invariant checks, scenario coverage) to reduce manual errors
  • Define and enforce guardrails: input controls/sanitation, auditability, documentation, and rigorous change management
  • Provide requirements to the IT software team by producing clear functional specs (data definitions, decision logic, calculation steps, acceptance criteria, and test cases)
  • Drive the modernization roadmap: leading automation around Excel today and defining a clear path toward scalable backend quoting over time

What You’ll Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in quoting systems, sales operations, or business/sales analysis roles working with quoting tools
  • Deep Excel expertise and a willingness to work in Excel as a core part of the job (complex formulas, auditing, and structural optimization for maintainability)
  • Experience automating and auditing Excel logic, and/or translating spreadsheet logic into code (e.g., Python/R, VBA, Office Scripts, Power Query/Power Pivot, or other scripting languages)
  • Strong engineering mindset: discipline around version control, ability to design tests, and comfort building CI-like gates for logic correctness
  • Ability to convert ambiguity into precision: excellent at writing requirements that software teams can implement without interpretation
  • Comfort operating at the intersection of product, finance, and software; strong communication and stakeholder management
  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Business, Information Systems, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work in fast-paced dynamic environments with evolving product definitions and short iteration cycles
  • Bonus: experience in energy, fintech, pricing systems, or CPQ/quoting tools
