What to Expect
We are seeking a seasoned Capital Expenditure (Cap Ex) Supply Chain Manager to lead global sourcing of manufacturing equipment in direct support of Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot program. This role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge robotics manufacturing and world-class supply chain execution — partnering cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering and Program teams to deliver scalable, cost-efficient, and production-ready solutions that enable Optimus to reach mass production. Reporting to the Group Manager, you will own end-to-end sourcing strategy — from supplier selection through full execution — ensuring alignment on cost, quality, and schedule. This role demands deep commercial expertise, a strong technical foundation in advanced manufacturing, and a proven ability to lead in one of the most ambitious and fast-moving hardware programs in the world.
What You’ll Do
- Lead end-to-end sourcing of precision manufacturing equipment — including casting, injection molding, and advanced fabrication technologies — critical to Optimus production
- Define and execute global sourcing strategies, including supplier identification, benchmarking, and capacity planning tailored to the unique demands of humanoid robot manufacturing
- Drive high-stakes commercial negotiations (pricing, contracts, scope, and change management) to achieve best-in-class total cost and terms across the Optimus supply base
- Own Cap Ex project execution for Optimus manufacturing lines, ensuring on-time delivery, budget adherence, and proactive risk mitigation
- Build and leverage should-cost models to perform rigorous cost analysis of supplier proposals and robotics-specific manufacturing processes
- Manage and elevate supplier performance across quality, delivery, cost, and innovation — driving accountability in support of Optimus production ramp
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Optimus Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Operations to ensure seamless program execution
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
- 8+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, Cap Ex procurement, or supplier management within a high-complexity, high-volume manufacturing environment
- Deep expertise sourcing capital equipment; experience with robotics, precision machining, castings, and/or injection molding strongly preferred
- Proven track record leading complex commercial negotiations and structuring supplier agreements at scale
- Advanced proficiency in should-cost modeling, cost breakdown analysis, and total cost of ownership frameworks
- Strong technical fluency in advanced manufacturing processes and cost drivers relevant to electromechanical or robotic systems
- Demonstrated ability to deliver cost reductions, schedule adherence, and supplier performance improvements in a fast-paced, first-of-its-kind program
