About the role
What to Expect
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Metal Forming, leads the design, development, and optimization of stamping and automation equipment. The successful candidate will have extensive theoretical and hands-on experiences in all facets of high-volume stamping equipment or automation from concept to production, including root-cause analysis and continuous process improvement.
What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, and improve assembly and automation processes for highest safety, quality, and efficiency while reducing overall cost and deliver turnkey solutions to enable vehicle production at rate
- Collaborate with product engineering on design for assembly of various components to allow for an efficient assembly process that builds quality into the process
- Collaborate with external vendors and internal stakeholders to conduct design reviews of the production equipment throughout the development process
- Develop and execute production process validation criteria using standardized metrics (cycle time, OEE, MTBF, etc.)
- Commission production processes and equipment using factory and site acceptance testing. Define a robust process control plan to enable high level of quality
- Submit, review, and approve any process changes for continuous improvement of ongoing production
- Support makes, buy, and ROI analyses as required, while validating external components suppliers using industry standard PPAP methodology
- Actively participate in cross-functional (Product Excellence) studies of field, warranty defects, and design of countermeasures to mitigate occurrences
- Analyze downtime data to identify processes causing downtime, or trends in overall performance
- Plan sufficient capacity to meet business targets for production output
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Must have 2 years of experience with industrial engineering/factory layout development
- Must have 2 years of experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and simulation techniques
- Must have 2 years of experience with lean manufacturing
- Must have 2 years of experience with capacity planning
- Must have 2 years of experience with project management
- Must have 2 years of experience with Auto
CAD or CATIA:
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams, including suppliers and operations staff
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with occasional overtime or shift work to support 24/7 manufacturing
- Travel as required for equipment supplier visits, trials or buyoffs (>5%)
