About the role

What to Expect

Cathode seeks a highly motivated engineer to drive operations at a cutting‑edge battery‑materials manufacturing plant. The will support the Cathode facilities team across wet mechanical, dry mechanical, and process system, handling design reviews, commissioning, system startup and day‑to‑day operations of all facility systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead startup, commissioning, and turnover of large industrial mechanical and chemical systems (chilled water, compressed air, HVAC, dust collection, reverse‑osmosis), owning performance from design review through installation, startup, and steady‑state operation
  • Provide first‑principles technical support to operations teams and troubleshoot facility‑system issues
  • Create, review, and execute startup plans, commissioning procedures, functional performance tests, and turnover packages
  • Initiate, develop, and lead process‑improvement projects aimed at reliability, energy efficiency, capacity, and maintainability
  • Partner with controls, electrical, facilities operations, construction, and vendors to meet operational, safety, and reliability requirements
  • Track and analyze root causes of process upsets, equipment failures, near‑misses, and safety incidents; capture learnings and incorporate them into team training
  • Review engineering designs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, submittals, and sequences of operation for large utility and process‑support systems

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering (or related field) or equivalent experience
  • 3+years industry experience supporting start‑up, commissioning, or operation of large utility/process systems
  • Cross‑functional collaboration experience with mechanical, controls, electrical, and operations teams
  • Hands‑on knowledge of rotating equipment, heat exchangers, pumps, cooling towers, air compressors, AHUs, filtration/dust‑collection, piping & instrumentation
  • Strong communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient in data and system analysis
