What to Expect
As a Lead Commissioning Instrumentation and Controls Technician, you will be responsible for Quality Control, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning, Start Up and Troubleshooting of Instrumentation and Controls Systems in Bay Are California and supporting other sites domestically in the US. Under supervision of the Commissioning Lead, perform and supervise other technicians and vendors with quality verification, loop checks, commissioning, start up and troubleshooting on various instruments related to industrial buildings. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, critical thinking, and collaboration with construction commissioning and Facility teams. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliable operation of control systems and instrumentation, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the facility.
What You’ll Do
- Supervise contracted and internal technicians to ensure day-to-day tasks are performed on schedule. Communicate to the Commissioning Lead forecasted schedule and budget of contracted support to enable project planning
- Ensure and/or perform quality inspections to confirm scopes of work are installed per design drawings and specifications
- Configure, calibrate, troubleshoot and perform loop checks on a variety of instrumentation, equipment and control systems, including sensors, transmitters, controllers, and actuators
- Work closely with integration team to coordinate PLC programming and DCS screen development. Perform VFD configuration, motor IDs, and networking. Support mechanical/process commissioning team during C&E and SOO testing
- Coordinate and manage 3rd Party vendors to ensure commissioning quality and completion within vendor provided equipment. Perform troubleshooting during commissioning and start up
- Use completion tools to track progress and issues of instrumentation devices throughout the project
What You’ll Bring
- Experience commissioning industrial processes, including but not limited to: Steam, HVAC, chilled water, fire / toxic services
- Ability to understand design drawings: plans, C&E Matrix, Control Narratives, Wiring Diagrams, SLD’s, PFD’s and P&ID’s Proficient in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems. Strong understanding of PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and other automation technologies
- Proficient with Siemens S7 / TIA Portal, V18; additional experience with Ignition and Allen Bradley PLCs is preferred
- Strong skills in troubleshooting motor controls, drives, and electronic components and proficient in using hand tools, electrical meters, and testing equipment
- Ability to work at high elevations (up to 60ft) and lift at least 50 lbs. regularly, perform repetitive hand and wrist motions, and twist and bend the body
